The Classiest XI
By: Jack | April 16th, 2008
Their the maestros. Technically brilliant, often awe inspiring. Some would say they liken to sultry songstress Sade — Smooth Operators. You know, the ones that lock you in and won’t let you blink until the full-time whistle has gone. It’s those classy footballers.
One of my best friends sought spiritual guidance regarding a “Classiest XI.” I, instead, made rebuttals. Nevertheless, it prompted me to blog about it — more specifically, to poll the readers to see who they think deserves a slot on this squad. The only prerequisite is that they must be currently plying their trade (sorry, but no Zidane or Bergkamp). So, who do you guys like? Make your own XI if you feel naughty.
Fagnewton’s Classiest XI:
—————-Berbatov
—–Ronaldinho—-Hleb—-Seedorf
——–Riquelme—Hargreaves
Abidal—-Lugano—-Nesta—-Zambrotta
———————Buffon
My Classiest XI:
——————-RVP
————-Totti
Juninho—Riquelme—de la Peña
——————–Pirlo
Urby—-Rio—-Carvalho—-Lahm
—————–Buffon

abidal–maldini–carvalho—lahmmy definition of classy is a player that can look great playing and do something so great yet it looks so simple and when they do it it looks like slow motion.

Yeah, all we’ve really got is Joe Cole and he’s not at that other level yet. We need some creative juice.

riquelme is a spoilt brat who is only happy when he is the centre of attention.
And ‘Sidanth’—– how the hell can you put carragher in your team?!?!?
He hoooofs the ball at every opportunity.
In terms of classy centre backs it must be Rio Ferdinand and Carles Puyol

Gotta say, I’m having a quiet wank over Rob’s team..though I’d replace Ronaldinho with Gerrard for that extra steel in the midfield, and Maldini out for Cannavaro.

Abidal and Puyol have been wretched this year … Casillas over Buffon?
Classy means something more than the “best” starting XI.

I think some of you are missing the point. This team isn’t about who is the best at the position or who’s in the best form at the moment — it’s about the best technically in the now. Those guys who make it look all too easy. Like, why is Gerrard mentioned? I mean, he’s a great player but he’s not in the conversation when it comes to technique.
Bruno, who cares if Puyol and Abidal have been poor this season? The point is, they both are quite gifted technically, thus their name being mentioned here.Posted from

I like John Ford’s team, although I might swap out Makelele for Pirlo.
