Chelsea in Los Angeles - No.2

By: Andy | July 13th, 2007

crest1.jpgAfter all the hype and necessity David Beckham jets in and is unvelied wearing the shirt of LA Galaxy during the course of Friday morning at the home of LA Galaxy (10am local time), the Home Depot Center, Carson City, California.

A truly wonderous day for all the fans of LA Galaxy hoping that the arrival of Mr B will lift their spirits and the fortunes of their club for the next five years costing $127million.

Just like Man Utd and Liverpool both owned by rich Americans now splashing their cash in good old England, hoping to buy their way to the title. Man Utd buying for the first time perhaps and Liverpool, well just desperate to achieve. With old Paella face in charge a man who has failed dismally already in the Premiership, Liverpool seem to be throwing good money after bad. (hardly good money - its American money after all heheh!!!).

Jose however has taken a different track than his rivals. His has introduced his new players over the last three days; two FREE siginings and Florent Malouda costing an estimated £13.5m.

First up was Steve Sidwell signed from Reading who has said ‘I will fight for my place.’ Next up was Tal Ben-Haim, finally signed, despite Jose being rebuffed during the January transfer window and Jose saying the Ben-Haim will save him from the sack - meaning that Jose has the central defensive cover that he craved for during those months and games of JTs absence last season.

Lastly Florent Malourda was paraded yesterday and said that he came to Chelsea to win trophies and to win those trophies that he hasn’t won before. He will not be without friends at the club, counting Essien and Drogba to name but a few that he is friends with already.

With Boulahrouz exiting the club on a year’s loan to Sevilla, Sidwell has been given the No.9 shirt. Ben-Haim has got the No.22 shirt and Malouda was given the No.15 shirt.

Jose’s first signing Claudio Pizarro from Bayern Munich is on leave from the club after participating in Copa America in Venezuela. He will be unveiled at alater date.

I am glad to see the No.9 shirt finding its way back forward. After all who ever heard of a No.9 being a defender and the fact that a defender wore the shirt for a year it smacked the memory of the late GREAT Peter Osgood.

Personally I would love to see the No.9 retired and hung as the centre-piece in the Chelsea Museum, on an Osgood stylesque shirt for every Chelsea fan to remember, adore and worship!!
