Poll: Goal of the season
By: Jack | June 5th, 2009Golazos. Howitzers. Screamers. Hot tomales.
Whatever you want to call them, Chelsea had ‘em this season — in abundance. From Super Frank’s absurd chip against Hull to Essien’s mother of all volleys against Barcelona, it was truly an unforgettable year for Blues goals.
The question is: Which was is the best (c. Essien)? I put it to you proud readers of Chelsea Offside, let your voice be heard. Last season, just 60 people voted in our annual goal of the season poll. This time ’round, I expect more than 100 votes. So run and tell a friend; alert your mom, even your mistress. Let’s make this happen, people.
Let the voting begin.
Bosingwa v West Brom
Lampard v Ipswich
Alex v Liverpool
Essien v Barcelona
Lampard v Hull City
Terry v Wigan
Anelka v Sunderland
Lampard v Stoke City
Malouda v Blackburn
Belletti v Middlesbrough

Great roundup of an interesting season. It certainly had its expected highs (Hiddink, the goals) and lows (Norwegian psychologists, the cold Scolari winter), ending with plenty of encouragement for next term, yet I can’t help feeling an overall impression of lukewarm disappointment. So much early promise, the plummet to the nether regions of the top four, the determined climb back into form and fitness. If there has been one consistent delight this season it is to be a witness to Frank Lampard–a true master, doomed to the delayed recognition of a genius–although I hope he hasn’t reached the peak of his ability. The future with Ancelotti seems so shrouded in mystery.

all great goals, tough call but i am gonna plump for………..lampard v stoke. Great strike and it won us 3 points in a vital game.
@Dave: Agree completely this season has ultimately left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. So much potential wasted, we had players good enough to win the league but a slump in form cost us.

For me, has to be Lampard’s against Hull. Beautiful vision and perfectly taken chip. Real quality. Essien’s a near second for me – and so much better than his usual efforts…
Fingers crossed Frank gets a goal today against Kazakhstan.
