Carling Cup Final: Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea

By: Andy | February 25th, 2007

carlingcuptrophyitv.jpgLets make no bones about this, the performance of Chelsea this afternoon at the Millenium Stadium, in Cardiff, Wales taught the ‘new’ Chelsea type plastic fans a bit of our history.

How to play rubbish just like the Chelsea teams of the past, but to write a new chapter in our history there should be a section that should be titled “How to play rubbish and win the Carling Cup.”

And the sub heading should read ‘in beating Arsenal to boot.’

There is no doubt about it. Chelsea don’t do anything easy at the moment. We go a goal down and looked ragged. We equalised from a Drogba goal that could have been easily given offside, our inspirational Captain gets stretchered off after an accidental kick in the face and we score the winner five minutes from time from the man of the moment, Didier Drogba.

The latest news on John Terry is that he re-joined the team back at the stadium, he was seen getting on the team coach fully suited and booted and I have just seen TV pictures of JT at Cardiff Airport waiting for the flight back to London.

As for Arsenal. Well I really do not know where to start. Before the game I hated Arsenal, after the game with the disgraceful conduct of Adebayour, Toure and Fabregas, I really do not have the time for a team that HAS established and experienced first teamers conducting themselves in the manner that saw Adebayour and Toure get sent off and Fabregas booked and to be fair should have been sent off too for the way he reacted whilst throwing his arms about and his toys out of the pram.

Chelsea’s Mikel was sent off and Lampard was booked within the same incident. Wayne Bridge was seen receiving treatment to his head after it appeared he was caught by a flailing arm or two, notably from Adebayour.

I am sure we haven’t heard the last of this unsavory episode and I cannot wait to see the FA throw the book at Teacher ‘Whinger’ and his gang of unruly kids - oops sorry established and experienced first-teamers.

Whoa. I can’t believe he walked away from that one. He should be thanking his lucky stars, because that could have been career-ending. Life-ending, even.

Oh, and I’ve fallen madly in love with Lassana Diarra (in a maternal kind of way, of course) and am dying for him to play with the France National Team. He was the one Chelsea player who really stood out for me today.

I think Arsenal would have won if not for the Terry injury. All the starch seemed to go out of them after that. Possibly an age and experience thing?

Wow, JT really is one tough guy. First the back, then the ankle, now the head….and he will probably still feature in the next game!

I took over the Chelsea blog for a month or so, but I’m glad you’re back into it Andy. I didn’t have the time for it and you seem to be a much more diehard fan. Keep the good posts coming!
