A Frank Lampard controversy? Bullshit

By: Jack | September 25th, 2011

Speculation. Those in the media world live off it. We in the real world feed off it. Why wouldn’t we? It, of course, makes for good reading, good watching – good whatever.

The rags’ latest helping of speculation comes courtesy not of Fernando Torres – weird, I know – but of Frank Lampard. Super Frank is steaming mad they tell us. So mad that he’s not hanging around any longer. Well, by not hanging around any longer, they mean not remaining seated on the bench until the final whistle. Future at Chelsea in doubt they say.

I call bullshit.

To the loo

What of this rubbish proposal is actually concrete? All we really know is that Lampard left his seat on the bench near the end of Saturday’s 4-1 win over Swansea City at Stamford Bridge. The Daily Mail say he exited promptly after Josh McEachran entered the match as Andre Villas-Boas’ final substitute, around 83 minutes. I don’t have actually evidence of this being the case, thus I remain skeptical.

What to make of the incident then? Until we have actual video/quotes/statements from Frank Lampard citing displeasure with not being selected or a general lack of playing time, nothing. What’s to say he didn’t have to take a piss? Perhaps he had to make AVB’s post-match latte.

Of course, we’d also like a word or two from Villas-Boas on the subject. Not to worry, people. The manager have already tackled some questions on this.

AVB in the Independent: “We have to make decisions. I can’t go on every week or every three days to discuss the choices I take. Yes, Lampard is still an iconic player and a fantastic player. And, yes, still a key player. For sure, no doubt about it. He’s been doing magnificently well for the team. He has started five games, played 90 minutes in four of them. We count on him like we count on the others.”

Not exactly in line with the media’s point of view, is it?

Could Lampard be upset about being dropped for Swansea? Sure. Actually, I would be disappointed if he wasn’t. Is his position in this team under severe threat? Definitely. Does he want out? Not likely.

So, after answering those insightful queries, I call bullshit on this latest round of speculation. BULLSHIT.

I beleive the news is BS. but I do beleive Frank will leave Chelsea before he hangs up his shoes. I think he will move to Tottenham or West Ham.
Great players, a legend but bigger players and more Legend players than him also left Chelsea (Franco Zola) so it is not a big deal. it is just football. One they you are the best, one day you are not the best. I beleive Frank Lampard is professional enough to realize that.

I would NEVER support selling him to Tottenham, and Roman better not ever let that happen. I hope we never sell him, because I will lose a lot of good feeling with the Chelsea board if that happens (unless Frank requests the move). I hold Lampard in basically the same regard as Terry, a true club legend and icon. I would also say that had it not been for Lampard, we wouldn't have reached some of the highs we hit. There are a few players who put Chelsea on the map as a European elite and powerhouse. Who is a central component to that? Lampard. I love the man to death and it would kill me to see him in another club's shirt (except for his pre-Chelsea days, of course).

If you or I (G-d forbid) were United fans, would you want to sell Giggs? He can't start week in week out like he used to, but you wouldn't want to sell him. That's how I feel about Lampard, Terry, and Drogba. I don't want to see them leave. Ever.

I would never like to see him leaving Chelsea either but I am pretty sure he will request to leave.

I do like him a lot. He is a legend but that is soccer. We have many young good and talented midfielders and Lampard is hungry to play. Club cannot sacrifice young players because Lampard used to be the best CM in England. He should regain his form otherwise he will not get that many games. and I am sure if that happens he will request to leave.
Why I guessed Tottenham or West Ham?  He will not leave London. how many clubs in London have opportunity to play in CL and how many of them needs experience to come among top 4? Tottenham.

    This is soccer.

I think Drogba and Lampard will submit transfer request but Terry will stay in Chelsea.

  • orthodoxyordeath

Regardless of the fact that I love *not* seeing Lampard right now, I think the media is making a big hell over nothing. He needed to take a dump. Big deal. Even if he was pissed, maybe he'll start playing better now. Next story.

Frank's performances since his return from injury last season have simply not been good enough to warrent inclusion in the starting 11. AVB has come out with the usual schmaltz of a 'world class player' etc etc but at least he has had the balls (unlike his predecessors) to drop certain players when required. It has just suprised me that it took a useless Italian England manager to show him the way! Frank IS a class act and a 'legend' in his own playing career but needs a kick up the ass with regards his own recent performances for Chelsea. As for throwing his toys out of the pram, I doubt it? He isn't going to secure another contract like the one he is currently on either at Chelsea or any other Premiership club. As for playing abroad, I seriously doubt that also as Christine Blakey's TV career is based in London. Until he regains top form Frank is a squad player just like Drogs now or Anelka, Malouda, Mikel, Ivanovich, Luiz, Terry or anyone else. Currently Cech, Cole and Mata are the ONLY automatic shoe-ins which should now keep Lamps and the rest on their toes when it comes to being picked for the first 11. Here's hoping to a quick return to top form for Frank as he is a GREAT player for Chelsea when he is flying!
