John Obi Mikel is no Claude Makelele. I like his defensive style and physicality, but he has these moments where he gets caught out of position, leaving the back line vulnerable to a massive counter attack. He's still young, so that can change with time, but I question whether he is smart enough to never let that happen - because Makelele was, and it allowed for Lampard to basically play a withdrawn striker role.

Finnegan, we've already got that type of player. His name is John Obi Mikel. Hopefully, Ancelotti will roll with him and plant Ballack on the bench.

What we need is a game-changer, especially on the right side, but perhaps also up front. Ribery or Kun fit that description perfectly.

I'm weary of chasing big name players. It's a Real Madrid thing to do - going after players just because their big name players. Look at how that worked out for them in the past - after losing Makelele, Madrid went on a trophy drought even with Zidane captaining the squad. Now, I'm not one to suggest that Chelsea needs a foundational player because as far as I'm concerned Essien, Lampard, and JT fit well that description - but man, would it be nice to have a super defensive player that allows Essien and Lampard to get forward and attack all the time.

Let's chase a player like that. Claude Makelele version 2.0.

Hopefully we can get a big name to give us some a little extra special. I agree that all the top teams are after the same top quality players with Real Madrid having the monopoly at the moment but fingers crossed.
