Ancelotti: Terry ‘captain forever’
By: Jack | July 6th, 2009King Carlo brought the ruckus today in his first press conference as Chelsea manager.

Among the highlights…
Carlo’s sense of humor: When asked about the future of England’s Brave John Terry, the Italian said he didn’t know if EBJT would be captain next season — then admitted to a bit of tomfoolery. Gotta love it.
He also promptly closed the door on any transfer of Terry to Manchester City, at least from the club’s end. He said, “There is no price on John Terry. Terry will be Chelsea captain forever.” Perhaps he’ll want to speak to JT before making a statement like this?
Ancelotti confimed the signing of Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow. Finally.
As for his English, was it me or has his grasp of the language regressed since that first exclusive interview with ChelseaTV? Either way, he manaveured through that conference with control and relative ease.
Audio: The conference in its entirety.

Huge welcome to you, Carlo! I wish you sincerest luck and hope you can further expand upon the progress made under Hiddink. Yet, I agree with you, Jack, about the seeming regression of Carlo’s language, and while I’m positive we were misled about the quality of his English (by editing trickery and cue card translations) during that first in-studio dialogue, as someone who has experienced the rigorous mental roller coaster that is immersion in another language I think we should take that impression as an encouraging sign. Mastery and understanding of a foreign language arrives in several echoing stages of progress, plateau and decline, meaning that your knowledge will expand to a certain extent before your brain rejects the new information, resulting in a temporary lapse in one’s linguistic abilities. Then there is the complex relationship between oral comprehension and capacity to respond, which tips the scales in waves…but essentially, IMHO, we should view this as a sign that he is at least already competent and his brain is engaged in learning. Can’t wait for Baltimore!

Terry has to stay we can’t be seen to sell our captain to rival wannabes and there is no obvious replacement for him
