Avram the Great now Avram the Sacked

By: Jack | May 24th, 2008

What do I get for staying up until 4:30 a.m. EST in hopes of finding out the fate of Chelsea manager Avram Grant? Absolutely nothing.

So, at 3:30 p.m., I give you the old news of the day — Avram the Great has been relieved of his duties as Chelsea coach, effectively immediately.

The Blues finished the 2007-08 season without a piece of silverware for the first time in three years. Grant did, however, ride the coattails of lead Chelsea to its first Champions League final in club history, which they lost 6-5 on penalties.

A statement on the Chelsea official website reads: “Chelsea football club can confirm that Avram Grant has had his contract terminated today (Saturday 24th May). This follows meetings over the last two days.

“Everybody at Chelsea FC would like to thank Avram for his contribution since taking over as manager last September. We will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager for Chelsea and there will be no further comment until that appointment is made.”

This really comes at no surprise, seeing as damn near everyone at the club has criticized Grant at one point or another — slimy Kenyon being the latest.

So who shall be next? Well, that’s an entirely different post my friend.

Hope he gets an upper management job or something of that nature..A good guy would hate to see him leave the club forever.

There’s no way he stays at the club. He’ll certainly have several managerial offers on the table, so why would he want to stay?
