Blues lodge bid for Ribery … rejected with Mutombo-like authority
By: Jack | June 16th, 2009Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed today that Chelsea had bid for his most prized asset, French winger Franck Ribery. But we’re not alone.

“Real (Madrid) have asked in person, through their president, Florentino Perez, and his adviser, Pedro Jimenez, whether we will talk to them about a deal,” Rummenigge said, according to Sky Sports. ”We have rejected that request, because we have no intention of selling Ribery.”
“Chelsea’s bid has already been reported, and there’s also Manchester United and Barcelona. We are approaching it calmly, because we are the ones who have the power to make the decision.”
Our offer, believed to be about £40 million, looks to have been swept aside with some menace. Yikes.
A story in the Guardian suggests United, who have denied contact with Bayern, are pulling out of the race altogether. In fact, Fergs & Co. will, via a new youth policy, refuse to sign any player over the age of 26. Now, I don’t know how accurate this is, but if true then ooooook. Good news for us, I’d say.
Anyway. Thoughts on the no way in hell potential signing of Ribery? As you guys know, I’m an advocate, but I’m not sure about the price at this point. There are cheaper alternatives (c. Valencia).
Regardless, I’ll keep you posted.

This is very good news and Bayern can now look elsewhere for a right back as the ONLY way Bosingwa was ever going to be released was part of a ‘Ribery deal’. Ribery is far too much money for his ‘type’ and his age and we as a club will be far better off going elsewhere and keeping Bosingwa rather than getting that liability Johnson back…good luck to Liverpool!

We shouldn’t be dumping that much money into any one player.
