Bravo, boys

By: Jack | August 9th, 2009

King Salomon breaks the penalty jinx. CA shows his mettle — as did the squad once again — in his competitive managerial debut with the Blues.

Oh, and Chelsea grabs the first hardware of the season. What a fantastic start.

Bravo, boys.

If Frank Lampard plays like that, I will take back most of what I said.

Though ManU’s diminished midfield presence probably had to do with his confidence, he still did a good job.

Also: I think the second ManU goal had something to do with Ancelloti’s subs. I would have rather seen Sheva come onto the field for Niko, and someone besides Deco to come on for Malouda.

You thought Frank was good today?? He was anonymous for the entire first half. It wasn’t until he worked from deeper that he had an influence. Personally, I thought it was a fairly average display from us aside from the opening 15-20 of the second half.

Man, you’ve got to love the haters.

Did you forget about the Barcelona game last season? We got knocked out when we could of , should of, gotten 4 penalties but the ref refused. Don’t come whining to us about one “refused” penalty or whatever the fuck it was in the bloody preseason. Do better when you face us in the real season.

And Yes Jack I thought our D was horrible until the end of the first half. I actually didn’t see the penalty kicks cause I passed out towards the last 10 minutes of the game lol. Glad it turned out to be a victory. You all are welcome for that (leave the room/team scores routine)

Ahh, but I did not tune in to the first half. I only got home for the second 45 minutes, so to me it looked like a pretty good Lampard performance :p

hey jack i dont think anybody from chelsea played well in the first half, bar carvalho and mikel to an extent……the second half we saw a oompletely different chelsea come out and that is the team that can win the league

anybody else think that the diamond is too narrow to work in the premier league????

    to Zaid Habib,

the diamond surely will take some work, it will be a good form to have in the bag o tricks later on, but i still think an attacking 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 is our natural set up. this diamond is a bit narrow, but if bosingwa and a.cole can run up the wings itll spread more, especially when zirkhov and j.cole are in the squad again. im puzzled tho how the diamond will work whence they r back, cause essien isn’t the ideal holding midfielder, thats more for mikel, essien is a better CM with dual attacking and holding duties, and malouda does great teaming with a.cole on the left wing, i assume yuri will do the same there, and geez, its been so long since joey cole has played that i forget how he fits in, but essien was on the right, and thats joeys spot, itll be interesting for sure this year, nd will ballack be a for sure starter, or are we gonna rotate? a lot of question need to be answered, and they will, surely tho our plethora of quality midfielders will be a blessing over a burden, as i think ancelotti has better luck fitting all the pieces together of our UN style squad than “big phill” ever hoped too….(cringing as i remember scolari’s blunders… stoke city at the bridge, i was almost ready to go on a killing spree…..)

    LOL

This is the formation Barca had against Chelsea in the end

    Valdes

    Alves Toure Pique Sylvino

    Xavi Gudjhonson

    Messi Eto Bojan

And this is the formation they played from minute 85 onwards:

    Valdes

    Alves Toure

    Xavi

    Messi Bojan Pique Eto Iniesta

    And from minute 65 onwards:

    Valdes

Alves Toure Pique NO LEFT BACK!!!!

    Busquets

    Xavi Keita

    Messi Eto Iniesta

YET IT WAS BARCA THAT PREVAILED. WHY? BECAUSE CHELSEA DECIDED TO DEFEND AGAINST A TEAM THAT WAS MISSING 3 CENTRAL DEFENDERS, PLAYING WITH 10 MEN WITH NO LEFT BACK, WITH AN ATTACKING RIGHT BACK. INSTEAD OF FINISHING BARCA OFF, THEY DEFENDED LIKE PUSSIES. ITS ONLY JUSTICE CHELSEA HAVE NEVER WON THE CL, AND NEVER WILL.

michael b–this is the very first time i have ever heard a chelsea fan say that (barca was the better team, deserved to win). even though you DID just go out of your way to mention the supposed injustices of the CL semi, congratulations on moving on, and thank you–i hope you can lead your peers on to a less bitter reality.

zack–barca fans are glory hunters? that’s definitely the pot calling the kettle glory hunter. as a fan of chelsea you must see the irony in saying that. even if you were one of the few who supported chelsea before the money came to town (you almost certainly weren’t), you have to understand that at least 90% of your fellow fans did not. love whatever you love about the team (?!?), but please don’t pretend this team’s fan base is almost entirely anything other than what it is. many people who don’t feel that chelsea deserved to be in the final ARE in fact “true football fans” (lol), and many of them aren’t fans of barca, glory hunters or no.

Jeremy – I came to be a Chelsea fan just by picking a team a few years back in the CL when I was watching soccer(football) for the first time other than world cup. I never knew anything of past trophies, money spending, etc. I just saw Drogba and Lampard. They seemed to be giving 110% every time (unfortunately no longer the case with Drogs.) Does that make me an awful Chelsea fan?? Or a “glory hunter”?? What about Man U and Barca fans (or any other “proper” “historic” team) and their sense of entitlement because of their history? Sure, Barca played “prettier” football than Chelsea, but they needed the ref’s help to win…doesn’t matter how “pretty” they played, they didn’t deserve that win.

josh–i don’t think that makes you an “awful chelsea fan”, in fact i would guess it makes you a typical chelsea fan. let’s review: you didn’t pick them based on their big spending or their success/trophies; you just picked a team in the champions league (by definition, a league that only consists of successful clubs) because you admired the players (which, of course, they acquired through big spending (although admittedly not lamps, the closest thing the team has to a soul)). fair enough–it’s not your fault you were ignorant of the club you chose. of course you didn’t know you were following the oil-rich, title-buying yankees of the epl–why would you have chosen them if you’d known?!? how could you have known from one or two games that drogba would turn out to be a petulant diving bitch of a diva, or that one day you’d end up with a dirty cheat like ballack? like i said, i bet a lot of your fellow chelsea supporters were the same way. i don’t blame you all, but i do sort of feel bad for you.

Quick thing on how I got into Chelsea – it was very simple, they were the very first team I was introduced to (by a scottish/rangers friend at that) after I just got re-introduced to the game of football after watching the Olympic games. Later on I didn’t want to root for Man United the top team of the league and for some reason I just didn’t like liverpool :P I also watch Boca Jrs (argentina) now after watching their matches at 3am in the morning while working on school work.

How in the hell did this turn into another Chelsea v Barca quarrel?

    Now, onto jeremy…
You seem to have it all figured out, eh? Well, except for that fact that everything you said is subjective — or, better yet, an assumption.

Personally, I think we actually all feel bad for you. Do you seriously have nothing better to do than troll opposing team boards? Or is it that you’re so disjointed from the rest of the world, or reality so to speak — probably as a result of your appalling personality — that you have trouble making friends and thus feel the need to attack others in response of this supposed atrocity?

    Run back to your cave.

i have no doubt that it’s too late for jack (he “loves the haters” too much to ever leave chelsea), but for the rest of you, there’s still hope, and i want to help! as we’ve established, most of you probably didn’t know who you were choosing when you started backing chelsea. it’s ok! people make mistakes! even the vietnam war must have seemed like a good idea to someone at the time. chelsea’s just won some hardware, so now’s the perfect time to jump ship without seeming like you’re giving up on your team. in the time since you decided to follow english football, you’ve doubtless come to realize that there are more than 4 teams in the epl, and that furthermore, (gasp) there are other leagues besides the epl in the world! you might even have seen a match or 2 that’s not EPL or CL in the last year (well, maybe). but you know so much better now! you’re ready to make an informed decision! imagine following a league from a part of the world that interests you, or a team whose history inspires instead of embarrasses you! it’s not out of your reach!

oh, and there’s an opportunity to pay this gift forward–think how lame you think new man city fans are. look at them, blindly cheering for the newest big-money team in the biggest-money league in the world. “but jeremy, they’re totally different than us,” you’ll say. but they’re not! they’re exactly the same as you were! and they need you! you can help them! tell them there’s more to football than soulless, heartless, marquee name buying. they don’t HAVE to choose a team that has celebrities for players, or will challenge for the title every year. they can know the truth, as you have come to know it! and the truth shall set you free!

(in case it’s not obvious…this is a joke, guys. and even as a joke, i’m talking about chelsea fans IN GENERAL. you’re probably nothing like the chelsea fans i’ve described, but you can probably think of some of your fellow supporters who are. and of course i know that this light-hearted joking will only somehow galvanize your allegiance to the club, for which i guess i should say you’re welcome (especially you, jack.). take it easy, you all.)

Jeremy – enjoy Barca’s treble. It won’t be happening again. And as for your assumption that I picked a team who was already good because they were in the CL, that’s an error. I had no idea what tournament/match was on. It was the first time I had watched European club soccer as at the time I didn’t have FSC/Setanta and was not really a huge fan. I had no idea it was “the best of Europe” in the tournament. I just saw a team that had exciting matches, made great defensive stances, and needless to say, beat whoever the hell they were playing (possibly Liverpool, as that seems to be a yearly CL event, right?)

I think you are a tool. I figure you live in your mother’s basement with Pep and Messi posters all over your walls, playing with your supposed manhood every time you look at them. Being a Barca fan has to suck. All you can do is talk noise on other clubs boards, apparently because there isn’t much to have continued excitement from with Barca, as last year will certainly not repeat itself, and you know it to be true. Now piss off.
