Bridge warns Chelsea: Play me in Carling Cup Final or I’ll leave

wb.jpgThat’s the headline, courtesy of The Daily Mail — and Chelesa fans cringe. According to the paper’s report, Bridge is completely fed up with his lack of first-team appearances (again) and has thrown a tantrum the size of Didier Drogba.  The article is quite clear on this: Bridge will demand a transfer is he is not picked over Ashley Cole to start the Carling Cup final against Tottenham on Feb. 23.

Supposedly our man was hot after being left out of the squad for Sunday’s borefest against Liverpool.  The Mail also reveals that Avram the Grant told his players during a training session Monday that they could leave if they were unhappy (what?). This is possibly the out Bridge has been seeking.

I, for one, believe it would be a massive mistake to let this man leave.  My thoughts appear to be shared by quite a few Chelsea supporters, too.  Over the past two seasons, Bridge has consistently out-performed Cole at leftback.  More importantly, perhaps, he’s yet to find himself on the wrong side of the tabloids.  As it stands, I find it hard to believe he won’t be gone come the summer regardless of whether he starts or not.  It’s unfortunate.

So, why don’t we place a little more blame on ol’ Cashley?  First, we swap one of the best defenders in the world — Bill Gallas — for a man known for wearing white after Labor Day.  And now, we will likely lose one of the most consistent leftbacks in England because of him.  Hmmmmm.

This is the problem with Chelsea. Like Liverpool, you don’t understand the concept of a squad. You can’t buy players like Bridge, Sidwell, SWP etc etc. and expect them to start on the bench - Bridge has the record for the most consecutive premier league starts at Southampton, he’s not a bench player.

Look at Utd and Arsenal - players like Bendtner, Silvestre, O’Shea, Fletcher, Senderos… these are squad players whose job it is to play their part in the team, but not start every game. They accept that and the team is better for it.

Incidentally, I used to be a big Bridge over Cole fan, but after his shocking game against Croatia, I’m not so sure. Cole is also the only full back I know who can keep Ronaldo quiet.

Bridge should be starting, it’s not like Ashley Cole has been in great form recently.

Couldn’t agree more. Cashley’s been nothing but trouble since he showed up.

The way I see it, the only thing that seporates the two players is speed and the fact that ashley cole can keep up with ronaldo is really the only reason he “LOOKS” better.Grant isn’t a smart coach because he coaches chelsea like an international team, by only picking the players he believes are better without thinking of different strategies to use subs. His idea of a sub is Shevchenko who is the most expencive mistake I have ever seen. Plus he is seasoned.

Why don’t we just get rid of Cole? He proved that he didn’t have the commitment when he left Arsenal for us in the first place and since his arrival, I cannot remember a single game where I thought Bridgey would not have done better.
Bridge gets forward just as well as Ashley, his crosses are better and although far from prolific, I would trust him more to grab a goal or two in a campaign - Remember Arsenal?
So come on Avram, start Bridgey, for the sake of the club.
