Chelsea 1-0 Barcelona

chevliv-006.jpg Bear with me. I am new to this WordPress and all this picture mucking about LOL. I really wanted to post a picture of JarJarBinks from Star Wars, because if you look closely enough, doesn’t JarJar Binks strike a resemblance to Barca’s Ronaldinho. The question is? Tonight who was the real JarJar Binks and who was the real Ronaldinho?

My answer is JarJar Binks!!!

Of the Barcelona players, Eidur as you would expect received a rapturous homecoming and young Argentinian winger Messi received the standard Chelsea ‘We hate you, you ******’ and work that out for yourself. But Ronaldinho where was he???

Henrique Hilario or Hilario known to his team-mates was for 89 minutes untroubled. His first ‘real’ save came on 89 minutes and anything else that he had to deal with in the 88 minutes he did and he did with aplomb. The only scares came in a period of the second-half when his kicking went astray and possession was returned to Barcelona. Other than that Hilario didn’t do anything wrong and every touch of the ball that Hilario made was ‘greeted’ with the cheers of 35,000 plus Blue and White flag waving fans.

The goal itself came from Didier Drogba on 47 mins. From a cross on the left from Ashley Cole, the ball arrived behind at Drogba’s feet, in an instant he flicked the ball onto his left and it returned to his right foot and from the edge of the area, beat Valdez from twenty yards to Valdez’s left hand post.

If you thought Drogba’s goal against Liverpool was sensational, then this one was even better.

Chelsea has never lost to Barcelona with eleven men at least not in Jose’s tenure and his statement from last season’s encounters bears fruit from this evening’s victory. With Chelsea clear at the top of Group A and one foot into the knockout stage of the Champions League, a defeat in the Nou Camp in 13 days time would not be the end of the World.

For the World Didier Drogba (on behalf of the players) and Jose Mourinho dedicated this victory to a Lady Chelsea staff member Vicky Buchanan, who was killed in a car crash on Monday.

Vicky worked for the Chelsea events team and was well-known to the players and management staff at Chelsea Football Club and was often seen at Cobham where Chelsea’s training ground is situated.
