Deep Thoughts: Chelsea 3, Everton 3

By: Jack | December 12th, 2009

This post is going to be quick, but painful. Sure, it may be a bit rash, and I may be overreacting, but who the hell cares?

94328687

In bullet form, of course.

  • I haven’t been this sick following a result since last May.
  • Shambolic. Egregious. Farcical. However you slice it, that was as awful a defensive performance as I’ve seen.
  • With that being said, get Hilario in the lineup ASAP. Petr Cech is spent. I’ve kept my mouth shut on this topic since the head injury, despite a ridiculous pile-up of miscues — and dropped points. Sure, it was a horrific injury, and I sympathize, but enough is enough. It’s time to find a new No. 1, or at least give the Portugese a run-out until Cech finds his way again.
  • Along those lines, has John Terry lost it, too? Consistently beaten in the air by Louis Saha? Louis Saha?! Atrocious today (Carvalho wasn’t much better, to be fair), and has looked a shell of his former, stalwart, self this season.
  • Who would’ve thought this backline, once almost impenetrable, could fall so quickly. Lets hope Carlo can work some magic. Alex, are you out there?
  • Didier Drogba, imperious once again. The man has 18 goals, and it’s only December. Yes, 18.
  • Have we transformed into one of Fergie’s old Manchester United sides, trying to outscore opponents? Not good.
  • United can pull even on points with a win against Aston Villa in today’s late fixture. We need Villa to do us a favor.
  • Where do we go from here?

    Adriano is a Great choice...
If only we could keep his head on the Game

Am with Jack regading Cech.We need to put him on bench for a couple of games ,get him to react to the competition...
i still think he is very Good...

and do any of you Guys have information regardin fabio paim,he was supposed to be good wasnt he?

  • Mouzinho

I have a suggestion! How about we get Adriano back to Europe?!

  • Luck was there, sure, but I just think Cech looks increasingly uncomfortable with every match. He was bewildered by the time Everton added their third. That lack of confidence could very well be invading the back four.

But if you guys say stick with him, I'll say it too.

  • ASR

I can understand why Carlo is not too upset, all three of our goals were pretty nicely worked.

All there goals had an element of luck...

Just need to focus on set-play defense again..

  • Ph0bolus

I think 5 games in all competitions without a win warrants at least a little concern.

  • ASR

I personally can't blame Cech too much for the goals today. The first one, he had to go for the diving save any GK would have.. it was just bad luck to hit post and go back in off of him.

In the last goal I'm pretty sure he gave Drogba the shout to leave it since he felt it was coming to him.. which it was. That is why cech was so pissed after that last goal. That being said maybe if cech had stayed back he would of had it covered. Either way it was horrible luck for drogba to head it onto Saha's back..

  • Also, Carlo apparently was pleased(?!) with the performance so what do I know? Keep the faith!

  • First -- and foremost -- thank you Villa. I still hate leaving our plight in the hands of others, though.

Cheers DM, but I don't think it's been just been just three matches of shakiness. Cech's consistently struggled for a almost a season and a half. You can only defend a guy so much. Of course, I understand why you want to stick with him, and I mean I hope he can pull himself out of this rut, but you can't really argue against dropping him, at least for a few matches, if you ask me.

And how am I "jumping ship"? Is a supporter not allowed to criticize his club? We have some serious flaws that must be analyzed. As for the injury argument, I think that's irrelevant, particularly today considering Everton was worse off than us. We had an incredibly strong XI out there.

  • ASR

I kinda agree with DM. It was a bad game, some bad luck as well. Cech is still a good GK in my opinion and deserves a little more support. I don think we should panic to much despite the rut we are in... and besides at the end of the day our lead at the top still grew a point, thanks to Villa...

  • Michael Benoit

I'm not saying we sell him quite yet.. just that we need to put in Hilario in a few games and see how he does against the competition. He did quite well when Cech was out with that red card earlier in the season. On an even brighter side - VILLA WINS VILLA WINS!

  • DM

What the hell, guys? I can't believe what I'm hearing. Cech's confidence has been shaken for the last three games (270 minutes of the nearly 1500 he's played for us this season) and we're ready to chuck him? For Hilario? No offense to Hilario, but I cannot agree with that.

Furthermore, while I agree the defense was shambolic, I just can't understand why we're hitting the panic button so hard right now. We're fighting a rash of niggling injuries -- see here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/spo.... Point is, a lot of our boys aren't at ideal fitness right now.

I do think your post was an overreaction, Jack. I'm ashamed that we'd rather jump ship than stick with it and support our boys. I have faith in Ancelotti and our squad. Someone tell me I'm not the only one.

  • Kostaz

We were far from imba today and will be even further when Drogba leaves.
I disagree with Martin, conceding 5 goals in just 4 days in the Bridge is reason enough to panic

  • pera

Guys you just had bad luck no need for hard feelings your team is imba on every position.

  • Kostaz

On a the bright side,Mikel wasn't half a bad as we expected and Ashley's performance was perfect.
I agree with everything Mouzinho said.

  • Well put, Mouzinho.

I personally like the formation, though. I agree Lampard looks at sea on the left, but shouldn't a world class player such as Lampard be able to excel despite a change in position? I still believe the tip of the diamond is the key, and must be addressed. I know Joe Cole is still finding his feet, but we need another creative piece regardless.

This Villa game is frantic. I can't see it remaining 1-0, as much as I would love it.

  • Mouzinho

All those points are true, Jack. I want to add a few bullets if you don't mind.
    - Winter transfers are necessary no matter what Ancelotti thinks.
    - We need a good defensive midfielder to cover for Essien/Mikel (Ballack maybe? Hopefully not Belletti)
    - Hilario should start and we should pursue a goalie like Akinfeev or Frey.
    - A change in formation perhaps? What do you guys think? Who's fed up of not seeing Lampard's name on the scoreboard?
    - Aston Villa 1 and hopefully it will stay that way!
    KTBFFH

  • Kostaz

I wouldn't be so quick to kick Cech out of the XI but I pretty much agree with you and my frustration is huge.Is this Scolari all over again?

  • Michael Benoit

On a good note tho, VILLA UP BY ONE!

  • Michael Benoit

I think a lot of us are ready for Hilario in the net

  • Amnos

Spot on Cech is spent, give hilario a chance
