This way to London

So, the first bit of news many of you came across this morning was that Mr. Falcao has decided to re-up his contract with Porto for an additional two years, thereby taking his buyout clause from 30 million to 45 million Euros. Now, let me be the first to go on record and say this is fantastic news. Trust me when I say this, we do not need him. We have enough strikers on the books to get through an entire season comfortably- and Falcao would be fighting for minutes next term. So, case closed.

Second order of business? Luka handed in his transfer request, as Jack pointed out yesterday. And today, promptly, one ‘Arry Redknapp has spat all over said request and essentially told Luka there’s no way THFC would honor his wishes, and that his expectation was that Chairman Levy would follow-suit and ensure that Luka remains a THFC player in the future. I can’t say I’m surprised by any of this, but I do think it makes the reversal after a 30 million bid that much harder to sell in earnest. After all, everyone here knows that the minute CFC cross the 30 million threshold, Luka is ours. Then, I’ll wait to see how ‘Arry and Levy find a way to spin this after being so brutish and dismissive of any and all financial offers for a player that clearly has two feet out the door.

Finally, my friends, some wonderful news. Mr. Thibs, yes, that one, is ours at last. Seems Genk have accepted a bid in the region of 5 million quid for the lad and he will be staying at the club for at least another season to further his education. But, if you need more info, check out the article here. I for one, am delighted that our first signing of the summer is one that isn’t too costly and does help us in the long term against one spot where we’ve been neglectful for several seasons. I’ll be curious to see what other deals matriculate in the coming days, especially this nonsense about bringing Scotty Parker back. But for now, we can take heart knowing that we’ve landed a quality blue chip keeper.

best signing we will make this season? Josh for another 5 years!

Tiote for 10 mill apparently now. No disrespect to african players because they are damn fine, but he'll end up at the african cup of nations anyways which again means no cover.

Euroblock economy tanking left and right and yet player valuations keep rising, hmmmmmmmmm

Well that is one way to settle the Falcao dillemna...

Is it just me, or is every transfer target (genk keeper withstanding) we look at somehow instantly inflated to the 30 mill pound threshold? modric is beginning to stretch it when the price passes 30 mill, now lukaku is being valued by anderlecht at 30 mill, moutinho is touted around 35 mill(not sure if euros or pounds though), neymar is around 45 mill (still dont know if AVB is sniffing this one out), pastore is valued 45 mill, sneijder is roughly 35 mill (actual interest unknown), falcao is 45 mill now, rossi is 30-45, aguero is 30+, sanchez (altho apparently all but Barca's) is 30+.........

Am i missing anyone? Probably, and whomever i forgot, they are probably valued at 35 mill and just settling into a new contract.

Chelsea need to put on a fake moustache/ glasses disguise and do our transfer shopping incognito.

P.S. No to Scott Parker, regardless of his 7 mill tag. he failed in his last stint at the bridge (under Avram Grant nonetheless) and to bring him back as cover for our "Wounded Bison" would be a waste of money and a glarring, almost trademark, chelsea mistake.

  • No disrespect, of course, but Parker was a Ranieri signing (Jan. 2004) and, in honesty, wasn't really given a chance to show his mettle under him. I still loathe his ass regardless.

ah, see i didnt get my footie fan-legs till around 2005-06 so i wasnt really folowing the Chels until mourinho era. my memories of scotty parker are predominantly during the mournho, and briefly, the grant eras. regardless, i thought he was woefully sub-par and 1 to maybe 1/2 dimensional and would never fit in on the squad. he dully moved on, and hasnt shown any grit or hidden talent that would make him whatsoever a useful signing.

On a side note, i often look back on our ex-chels and wonder what could have been, what if we held on to Robben and sold off Joe Cole instead of vice versa. At the time Joey was still a credible first-teamer, still young, his fitness problems not as prominent, he was seen as the creative midfield catalyst for the nat'l team, and his salary was much more humble than the current Anfield-fed one. Robben was seen as too tempermental, injury prone, maybe not a good fit for our formation, in short he was surplus to the requirements.

Other than the injury issues, Robben has proved to be much more potent and prolific than Joey. only if we had a time machine...

I guess manchester united and real madrid get this feeling a lot with the likes of: VDV, Pique, forlan, sniejder, van nistelroy(both clubs), CR7, robben, and so on and so on and so on. A few other clubs seem to suffer this to a lesser extent like liverpool or arsenal, maybe Juve, all of their foolish sales seem to make chelsea look well-adapted at sucking the talent and success from its players.

  • What I was trying to say was that Parker was sold after the 2004-05 season, thus he never played for Grant. He only made 18 appearances in Mourinho's first year before being sold to Newcastle.

well, this is akward, i wish i would of wiki'ed his career before i sort of talked out of me arse[ne]. regardless, the only thing we should be looking to gain from West Ham's relegation firesale is a cackle or two of disillusioned Hammer supporters...

  • Mateo

that tends to happen when you drop 50m for a striker that scores once in 6months

  • my friend Mateo we should not just look at the number of goals Torres scored in 6 months, should also take a close look at the player's fitness, for the entire last season he was going through a serious pain.i am sure u won't come up with this statement next season.

  • Buzzi

I don't know if I'm one of the "everyone" here that "knows that the minute CFC cross the 30 million threshold". I think they'll continue to hold out for more, probably around 35, if they do end up selling him.

  • Raynovo88

time to bring delac as our backup gk. Give him games in carling and fa cup!! Tired of turnbull or hilario

  • Raynovo88

ganso would be cheaper and higher celing. Way better than modric

  • True, but I think the prevailing logic is to get a proven commodity that can flourish right away in the English landscape.
