Theres nothing left to say about Didier´s attacking skills, but i would like to point out that what really sets him apart from all other strikers is his defensive commitment: defensive headers, tracking all the way back, getting the ball back, pivoting for other players. he will be greatly missed.

all of them, paulo, malouda, kalou, bosingwa, drogba… will be missed. they have given a lot to this club.

i wish them well wherever they go.

ps: i have this nagging thought that drogba will retire here… he may leave this summer but he will come back for his final season …

rumors are going crazy, first they say we have already bought Hulk, and now they claim we offer Torres + 15 for falcao

Maybe my eyes were deceiving me, but it looked like Danny was playing more centrally, in the hole behind Lukaku because RDM was experimenting with the lineup. If so, he did a very credible job and had more vision for both passing and shooting. Or maybe he was just drifting towards the middle from a winger spot. Whatever the case may be, I like his potential in that central role. Maybe I was wrong to call him one-dimensional in hte past and we found someone we with the talent to rotate between central striker and central playmaker (Mata's role) in the future. He would always get plenty of playing-time if given those assignments officially.

In terms of experimenting, good game by RDM. Yes, we may have to play Drogba and Torres together and it was good to see for 20 minutes or so.

honestly, i am scared. barca didnt scare me as much as facing gomez/ribery/robben with bosingwa as a cb.

for the record, a 70 % fit luiz/cahill is still a better option than anyone else.

i envision torres will indeed play on the wing as there really is not better option…unless he's pushing ash or bertrand up on the left and sticking kalou on the right. Don't care if malouda is fit, please don't let him get anywhere near the squad. The midfield trio of Mikel/Lamps/Mata should be good enough.

Drogba can win this thing by himself if the supreme beast appears.

Both Luiz and Cahill have confirmed they will be fit for Saturday, so at the very least we can put the notion of Bosingwa in the center to bed.

Mikel is shite. I really dont understand why he keeps starting. He's slow and has no work rate. Essien ands Lampud are a better option to cover the Dmid positions especially when Chelsea has unfit centre backs .

I wouldn't be against Torres starting, but I think Danny on the right and Kalou on the left is the way forward. Danny's pace can cause all sorts of problems and if he's as unselfish as he was Sunday (a big if), then he could be an inspired start.

he was unselfish in a game that did not matter at all. torres has been statistically our best player under rdm, so hopefully he starts.

whatever the choice, it will be a gamble for rdm.

Agree with your scenario, Jack. Danny as a right winger is where he had his most success under AVB. However, the improving play of Ramires on the right is what pushed Danny to the leftside and/or the bench under RDM. While it's unfortunate that Ramires can't play, I'm hoping Danny Boy moving back to the rightside causes him to have a flashback of genius and he becomes a hero this Saturday.

Another scenario — Torres as a 4-4-2 striker (to pair with Drog) while Danny is the RW. This way ALL our best offensive weapons (Mata too) would be on the field at the same time.

My scenario? Praying to the Football Gods in Blue Heaven above…lol

I can easily see Bayern putting out a formation of the following:

    Neuer
    Lahm-Tymoschuk-Van Buyten-Boateng
    Schweinsteiger-Kroos
    Robben-Mueller-Ribery
    Gomez

There could be a chance Mueller fills in for Schweinsteiger, with Olic in the lineup, but it'd be more likely for Pranjic to fill in for Schweinsteiger. As a fan of both teams, I shudder to think who ends up on defense due to cards and injury. I agree about Bayern's depth, but it's just not -that- much better than Chelsea's.

Don't think a torres & drogba patnership will work and if rdm chooses between kalou and sturridge,I'd go for the former probably..those damn bayern wingers needs to be kept quiet(ribery v bosingwa,1v1,not ideal)

RDM won't have to choose between Kalou and Sturridge because Kalou will definitely start on the left wing where he's has been playing alot lately. The question is — who are the candidates for the rightside to replace Ramires? If we run RDM's patented 4-2-3-1 formation, then I say go with Sturridge as RW….with Torres making a possible substitution if Danny is ineffective or getting tired. (We did it once before — Torres played for the last hour against Napoli as a makeshift right winger and did a very good Beckham-like job while Drogs was the lone striker. We won that miracle game).

Personally, I suggest a 4-4-2 with Danny as RW and Torres/Drogs as strike-partners….with Torres drifting to the wings to give Drogs room to operate or to send crosses to Drogs. Bayern might so concerned with Drogs they allow Torres, Danny, Mata and Kalou to hurt them around the box and Lampard to slip in from MF. Drogs can even drift toward the MF to win the ball and feed Torres and others as a defacto playmaker if/when Bayern ignores the other Blues. With this formation all our weapons are on the field for a “do or die” run at the UCL Cup. There will be no debate about who plays where — they'll all be out there fighting till the end and the famous CFC gave it their best shot.

RDM can start the game with his familiar 4-2-3-1 (to see how they handle DD and see how Danny is doing) and then shift to 4-4-2 depending on how the game progresses…or digresses. I say Chelsea wins 3-2.
