‘You know what’s coming. It’s Hasselbaink … BANG!’

What up?

Jimmy. One of my favorite players – ever. A Chelsea legend.

The Dutchman wasn’t just a charismatic fella, though. He scored a bucketful of sensational goals for our famed club. West Ham circa 2001 springs to mind, as does the latest series entry for Glory Goals (fantastic name, still).

The 2002 League cup – then known as the Worthington Cup – saw us meet Tottenham in the semifinal round. A grand stage no doubt for a grand derby. Hasselbaink was well aware of the stakes, proving impossible to subdue in Chelsea’s 2-1 opening-leg win. He scored both of our goals, the second, a stunning free kick from at least 25 yards, is showcased here. Check out the power he got behind that one. Unstoppable.

Fantastic call from the color man, too. Brilliant.

This proved to be one of the only highlights from the tie, unfortunately. Spurs managed to overturn the first-leg deficit, annihilating us 5-1 in the return at White Hart Lane. We trailed after just two minutes, and Jimmy was sent off early in the second half. Brutal.

Enough with the shite memories. Just enjoy the strike.

And the accompanying smile.
