Guus is ‘committed to Turkey’ – so sayeth the wily agent

Should we expect to be painting a similar picture to the one below come August?

We keep hearing about the Dutch around these parts. Marco Van Basten is the man to helm the rebuilding project at Chelsea Football Club. Guus Hiddink will aid in the cause as director of football. That was the initial volley. But there’s another idea, one that’s been thrown about here more than once. Maybe Guus, currently overseeing the Turkish national team, will just do it all his lonesome – flanked by a certain Russian and perhaps a legend named Gianfrancola.

Hiddink’s agent, Cees van Nieuwenhuizen, offered some interesting insight into that possibility Tuesday. He didn’t say yes. He didn’t exactly say no, either.

“I don’t know that you can say that,” he said when asked if Guus would not consider returning to club management. “He is focusing on his job and he likes what he is doing. As long as he is in the race for the European Championship with Turkey, he would continue to focus on that. Once that is finished he will start thinking about his future.”

Hiddink could potentially be available for a role at the club as early as the week of 5 June, though that’s highly unlikely. A defeat to second-place Belgium on June 3 in Euro 2012 qualification would put Turkey, currently third in Group A, in a very precarious position. The TFF may be willing to part with the Dutch master soon thereafter. If not, the earliest you’re looking at is October. Make the playoffs, and we’re talking November. Failing to qualify for Euro, well, you know the drill – he’s out of the picture for certain, at least as manager.

Regardless, Chelsea will be buoyed by the remarks of van Nieuwenhuizen. The question is whether Roman really has his mind set on installing Hiddink as manager once again.

    Please bring back Guus!!

We need him. He is a fantastic manager, knows our team, style of play very well, the players love him.

I agree that Carlo shouldnt have been sacked. He wasn't the reason for our ban season (and neither was Torres). We just need some fresh blood. Bosingwa, Anelka, Kalou, Ferreira need to be let go. Drogba, Lampard and Malouda might be ok for another season. We should get Van der Wiel, Neymar, De Bruyne and Aguero. I'm not so sure about Lukaku. When i whatched him he didn't look so special, plus I keep reading comments about him being overrated. I'd rather have Aguero, his style of play is a lot like Rooneys, not a classic number 9 or 10.

Madrid just fired Valdano.  So now we give Mou two choices, a club which totally supports him, changes its transfer policies and system for him and has its faith in him.... and one where the manager is just a "technical director," has no class, clears the team to give the "manager" less to use, bring in random flops and force them onto the manager, meddle, meddle, meddle, and then fire the manager when it all goes to scheisse.

What do y'all think of this Pellegrini situation?  Unlikely to happen, but why are we trying to get a coach whose success in Europe is mixed?

Seeing as we are trying to rekindle the Mou thing, or bring the next Mou, at the end, we'll run out of options and just go for Van Gaal.  Which would be good for Chelsea (if we had new midfielders)

Van Gaal is super attacking and Chelsea has a solid defense that doesn't need to be told what to do.

  • Pellegrini makes no sense. I'm going to chalk that one up to the rumour mill - at my own peril. I reckon Guus is the front runner at this point, with Van Basten and Boas in the mix amongst whomever. We've been known to surprise after all.

  • All of this is so stupid.

The Ancelotty sacking signified to me that the era of quick fixes and finding the temporary manager to replace Mourinho (and make the old Mourinho system work) are over.

Either you offload the entire core of the team - Terry, Drogba, Lampard - and build from the very beginning with youth and new leadership (keeping Sturridge and Borini would have been a start), or you keep a manager like Ancelotti to continue tweaking the current system.

Sacking Ancelotti didn't make sense, and throwing in names like Pellegrini and Hiddink don't make any sense either. Neither option gives what we, fans and Roman, want, something entirely different and new and fresh. Sure we like Hiddink, but if the club wants to grow, then enough with the old geezers.

    AVB for Prez '12.

  • Also, Marco Van Basten is a pancake. Ask any Ajax fan from 2009.

  • I agree that initially I didn't like the idea of Van Basten - still am not sold at all - but this piece by our brothers over at We Ain't Got No History is pretty interesting on MVB: http://www.weaintgotnohistory....

Oh go on then, let's speculate!!!

  • CharlieFineman

Then again, Sky Sports is throwing Pellegrini's name (former Real Madrid, current Malaga coach) in the hat. There's so many names, and only Roman knows best.
Pellegrini, as far as I know, helped Real to a second place, scoring a huge amount of goals, but just fell short of matching Barcelona.

It's not even worth speculating until we hear an annoucement, or so I think. From what we know, Guus and Roman are close friends, so the potential deal could have been discussed a while ago. Guus would've joined Chelsea two seasons ago if it wasn't for his ties with Russian NT. Now, Roman couldn't force him to quit because a certain mr. Putin would then put pressure on Roman. So all that's left for us is to see when or if Hiddink decides to call it a day on Turkish NT (wheteher they qualify or not).

  • I'm not opposed to a Guus return, but I'm just so incredibly jaded by the Ancelotti sacking that I'm still not completely invested in the process, yet.
