MotM Poll: Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool

Out-thought.

Man of the match? I think not. We’ll be skipping the usual post-match poll on the grounds that, today, everybody was pretty much shit – sans David Luiz. That kid looks the business, eh?

This has been about as disappointing a day as I can remember. Not that it wasn’t entirely unforeseen. Isn’t this just like Chelsea Football Club? You have to love it.

Ah well, enough talk of consecutive league crowns. Time to focus on qualifying for the Champions League next season. And maybe winning the damn thing this term? If only.

Who’s to blame for this debacle? The players, for failing to show any kind of class – and lacking any kind of urgency? Carlo, for being completely out-thought and undone by a manager who has been out of the game for more than a decade? I opt for all of the above. Just pathetic.

More in tonight’s match recap.

motm were cetch and bane getting on a fight at the first half....and then in their attempt of avoiding the same fight they conceded a real duoshey goal

  • Shit was hilarious and deplorable at the same time.

Hi, one player who did play well was david luiz, for the short time he was on the pitch, he looked very comfortable and classy even though this was the first time playing in a difficult. He will be a great chelsea player in the years to come.

If you are looking for the lemon of the match, you'd have to think Cech would be up there in the ratings. I'm sure on the slow motion replay I saw him close his eyes and whisper "please don't hurt me" as the ball travels straight across him to an unmarked Merieles for the goal. And while i'm in a helpful mood, I'd be happy to lodge a vote for Drogba and Torres as "the softest front two in the EPL" if you'd care to set up a poll on that. Here to help.

arnoob are you for real, you pay 50mil for a player wo you regard as one of the best in the world and you say he's not ready, lmao.so what you suggest, play him in reserves for a couple of weeks first?

  • Scouseuk

best player for chelski today was anelka, thought he looked great dropping off deep and driveing forward,oh and can i make a plea, make your own banners, the 1 today still had the shankley gates on ffs all you had done is changed the color.....

manks lost,we got 3 points at the bridge now steelers go win the superbowl and its been a great weekend

I don't know. I think Cech did well, and he's underappreciated by fans. Just because they scored doesn't mean he didn't do the best anyone would've done in that position. Bosingwa was better than his usual self. Lampard, Mikel and Essien were pretty poor. Torres, being Torres, didn't try too hard.

There was no reason to play Torres today. He's new and he still needs time, as Ancelotti admitted. So why play a player who needs time to adjust when you have players that are ready?

Keep the training sessions for training and the matchdays for the matchdays. You don't have to play your new signings as soon as you get them, and if you do, don't be disappointed with the result.

I also feel that Ancelotti is either totally out of ideas, a plan B or anything close to it or is disinterested. That Maxi chance was almost a goal and Meireles' goal was from open play. Spending 50m on a striker so that we can win a match through penalties?

Watching the game was like watching a game between the 4th and 6th best teams in England, and it's exactly what it was. This team, with this management and style is the 4th best. The top 3 teams now all have better midfielders, better strikers and equal defenders. Overall, they are better, it's sad to say.

  • Derrick

Chelsea has equal midfield, better strikers and equal defenders with top 3 team now. You lose due to tactically being outsmart by Liverpool. 3 Strikers nullify and lampard/Essien ineffective due to congested midfield by liverpool. I am very surprised to see you questioning your players ability instead. Chelsea could have being more prepared after Liverpool/Stoke game because they play the same shape against you again

  • arnoob

Equal midfield? Mikel has less goals than Brad Friedel and got a yellow card for nothing in the first seconds of the game. Gerrard created two chances, one missed by a midfielder, one scored by a midfielder. Check the heat maps and see how Gerrard was all over the place, Meireles switching positions, Lucas linking up play... it was truly a team performance.

It was Chelsea that was clogging up the midfield with the narrow diamond that was static in creativity, ball distribution and positions.

In Liverpool, no one is bigger than the club or the coach. If they don't perform, they'll be benched or even sold. In Chelsea, players are guaranteed their position irrespective of their performances. The player hierarchy is damaging the team.

Lampard wasn't good this week, will he play next week? Certainly. Why wasn't he subbed for Ramires? Because he's Lampard.

Kalou can miss 90 sitters in one game, Sturridge can score from the ten minutes of time he gets, and Kalou will get the position ahead of Sturridge.

Chelsea have better strikers by name only. Tevez, RVP and Berbatov are better than any Chelsea striker this season. Overall, yes, Drogba and Anelka have better careers and may have a better year next year, but here, now, this season, considering the current variables - demotivation, malaria, injuries, etc, they are worse.

  • Hey, "Chavs"...wouldn't it be absolutely hysterical if...if Liverpool beat you guys out for the fourth spot?? Yes...yes, it would. Even YOU have to admit it...THAT would be FUNNY!! Poor El Nino...I mean "El Foldo". Can you IMAGINE how it would be for him to move to Stamford Bridge, only to have the team that he shit on, beat you guys out for the fourth spot. THAT would be the ultimate in poetic justice, don't you think??

  • Kabir

"El Foldo" has to be in the running for worst attempt at humor ever...

  • Really, Kabir? Well then it's obvious that YOU haven't had to suffer through Torres' impression of a disinterested somnambulist for about 70% of his performances for Liverpool FC this season. I have seen every single game, and, much too often, Torres ABSOLUTELY "mailed it in"...head down, shoulders slumped, no tracking back, no effort to regain the ball when he lost it (which was frequently), and displaying the finishing touch of a blindfolded, snowshow-clad Bobby Zamora. Unfortunately, Torres QUIT long before he LEFT, letting down his team mates, the club and hundreds of thousands of fans, worldwide, in the process. You might not like it, but that's how it is."El Foldo" couldn't be more appropriate!

  • This poll was a bad idea. It's coming down.

  • So moody. You should really be less emotional about this kind of stuff. After all, this is a public website.

  • So, because I decided to remove a poll that was obviously being manipulated, I'm moody? Yeah, that makes sense. Why can't Liverpool supporters just enjoy a win instead of having a go? Hilarious.

  • Thomas

dont worry he wont be the last to be caught out by the king.just have to get this off my chest, been building up all week, thanks for the 50 mil. a fool and his money are easy parted.hahahahahahahahahaha

  • Oista

    Bang on the mark, Thomas!!!
mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • arnoob

Flop of the match would be more appropriate. Tough one between Torres and Mikel, but getting a yellow card in less than 50 seconds has to earn you something.

  • Czar4reel

You need to quit your "arm chair coaching attitiude" on here and just support the club through these hard times because the truth is no matter how much you whine in this forum about Mikel or any other underperfomer on the team your voice will never be heard up there in Roman's office or Lotti's for that matter
