Need another reason to love Juan Mata? He’s outspoken

By: Jack | August 22nd, 2011

“I want to come to England to win trophies and that’s why I accepted Chelsea’s offer. It was also a question of sporting achievement, not money. Arsenal and Tottenham were both interested in me but they did not compare with the Blues. I want the Premier League title and this is possible at Chelsea.”

Juan Mata tells it.

Tottenham? Nah son.

Harry Redknapp has been talking nonsense again. Shocker.

His continued roller-coaster talk of Luka Modric has been incessant. He hasn’t a clue if the Croatian is leaving. He expects him to stay. He wants Daniel Levy to work out a treaty. Whatever.

Prior to Tuesday’s match at Old Trafford – one in which Spurs played fairly well early before capitulating in vintage fashion – Harry decided to take a pot shot at our latest signing, Juan Manuel Mata. As you know, Tottenham were very much interested in the Spanish attacker, but couldn’t close a deal for the 23-year-old. Same as Arsenal.

“We were in for Mata and close to doing a deal. But he didn’t come and Chelsea came in,” Redknapp said. “Obviously they can blow you out of the water wage wise, and then he changes his mind and they get him. It’s all about wages.”

Mata must have caught wind of Harry’s drivel (probably not).

He did, nevertheless, offer up his reason for choosing Andre Villas-Boas’ project instead of the Arse or Spurs. You saw the quote that lead this piece. Shots fired. He also went on, singling out both AVB and Fernando Torres as key factors in his decision.

“Fernando Torres helped influence my decision but speaking directly with Villas-Boas was the decisive factor. He explained how his style will be based on 4-3-3 and how important I will be to his plans.

“Frank Lampard is a monster of a footballer to play alongside and the prospect of that is incredible.”

As if most of us needed another reason to like this kid, he goes out and provides us with these gems. Looks as if he’ll fit right in. Welcome, Juan. We’re looking forward to you unleashing some of your more exceptional skills against the likes of Spurs and Arsenal.

I hope Mata doesn't play in Lampard's position unless required. I'd prefer him to play on the wings and would also prefer Chelsea to purchase another attacking midfielder asap or give more game time to Mceachran. A creative CMF + Mata will give us something we lacked for some time : Loads of Creativity.

I'm really happy with Mata's acquisition. I've always said that we never replaced Robben after he left, but finally...I think we have.

I have a feeling I've found my favourite Chelsea player after Gianfranco Zola :)

    KTBFFH!!!

I wonder if he'll stick to the left forward role or take over the playmaker role that Modric was meant for.

He really does look like a more hirsute Rooney.

In other news, sounds like Bertrand is getting a bit pissed about the Pereira rumours, after he retweeted the rumour from Sky Sports, then wrote 'Talent only flourishes with opportunity. Opportunity only arrises with stability...'

https://twitter.com/#!/ryanber... worrying if he's unsettled, odds on him going to Hamburg? (Bleurgh)

Here's what I want to see for beautiful attacking football:

                       CechBosingwa   Ivan  JT   Cole
      Ramires     Lampard      Kakuta
    Sturridge     Torres     Mata
I know asking for Kakuta might be hasty, but the idea of him and Mata linking up along the left flank, with Cole making deep runs, with Kakuta cutting in with Lampard from the inside, sounds like a brilliant attack to feed Torres up front.

I don't agree with this formation. The midfield is too weak. Lampard is NOT a holding midfielder. I expect AvB to stick with Ramires - Mikel - Lampard trio against Norwich. Sturridge is banned so Mata will play as the inverted right winger, Torres as CF and Malouda on d left.

Having said that, I like your attacking trident comprised of Sturridge - Torres - Mata. It certainly seems to have a lot of potential :)

And I prefer a Luiz-Terry combo in the center of our defence.

I'm excited about what Mata can add to the team... this is gonna be a fun year..

  • He stopped just short of telling Harry where to go. Love it.

after one more match we have mata and sturridge both in our starting 11 hmm things are definitely gonna get interesting from here on :)

  • Yoshi

Yep. I also think that Sturridge coud be massive for us this season. AvB also believes in the lad. Good times r round the corner for the Briton.

    Touchwood!
