Official: Scolari named manager

By: Jack | June 11th, 2008

This just in, Portugal manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has been named Chelsea manager. Shocking news. Really.

From the Chelsea FC official Web Site…

“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to confirm that Luiz Felipe Scolari will be the club’s new manager from July 1, 2008.

Felipe has great qualities. He is one of the world’s top coaches with a record of success at country and club level, he gets the best out of a talented squad of players and his ambitions and expectations match ours. He was the outstanding choice.

Out of respect for his current role as Head Coach of the Portuguese national team, and to ensure minimum disruption to this work, there will be no further comment from Chelsea FC nor from Felipe about his new role until his employment with us commences.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m pleased with this decision. The guy’s got mad clout son. I have to say, though, really awkward timing for an announcement. What’s that all about? I assume to aid in transfer dealings.

Anyway, drop you thoughts here. Happy, sad, wistful, whatever — let us know how ya feel.

Couldn’t be more pleased. Scolari knows how to manage a changing room packed with swollen egos and huge reputations, which was certainly one of the main failings of Uncle Avram (whom I believe was actually quite likable, though not a brilliant choice to succeed the glory that is TSO). Unfortunately, now I’m itching for next season to begin even more! I’ll be in Paris next semester and hope to make plenty of trips across the channel to see the man in action. Up the Blues!

*Oh, and it also makes sense why Big Phil wanted Ronaldo to move to Madrid!

Apparently Scolari is good friends with Ronaldinho, so I say give it a week or two before the rumours start flying. I wouldn’t mind you guys taking him off our hands.

Quite pleased. So glad they didn’t go with Hiddink or Rijkaard. Now we may see some offense! And considering that Portugal has been my pick to win the Euros, even better.

The word is that Fabio Capello has recommended Scolari to Roman Abramovich.

Is it just me or does seem like Mourinho football all over again? Maybe if he brings in some better players…well those who fit an attacking style of play that he may or may not bring.

Those press conferences will be interesting when he refuses to answer in English.
