Poll: Chelsea Offside Player of the Year

By: Jack | May 20th, 2009

Tomorrow, Chelsea’s player of the year awards will be held. You can see the event live on ChelseaTV from 9 p.m.

In lieu of the ceremony, I’m interesting in your view on the subject. Who has been the man this year? I put it to you Chelsea Offside readers, lets settle the debate.

There certainly have been plenty of candidates. At the front of the list has to be Frank Lampard, who has been absolutely phenomenal. Of course, the English midfielder has been amazing for the better part of the past five years. But you guys know just how amazing he’s been this campaign.

Super Frank isn’t the only worthy winner, though. Ashley Cole, for my money, has been on par with Frank every step of the way this year. England’s Brave John Terry has, as always, been a rock. Alex has come in to the team seamlessly and Nicolas Anelka has bagged goals whenever called upon. Even Florent Malouda deserves a shout for his superlative close to the 2008-09 season.

So, people, get on here and vote! On Friday, I’ll close the voting and we’ll name our inaugural Chelsea Offside Player of the Year. The winner will, of course, get a nice article done on them. If it’s Lampard’, I may just copy and paste the “Case for Frank Lampard” post I did a few days back.

I leave it to you, my friends. Let the best man win.

while fat frank has done what he always does to the usual high standards, my vote has to go to mr Anelka. never been a fan of the guys temperament but it takes a striker of real class to slot in as quickly as he has done. anyone who goes to the games will see the work he’s put in off the ball with his constant runs into space. hopefully Fergs will rest Ronaldo for Manure’s last home game and Mr Anelka can pick up the Premiership’s Golden Boot this year. well deserved. if we can have him and Drogba fit next year we should challenge all season this time for the title.

got to be frank, he’s been immense this season. honorable mention to Essien for his explosive return and Anelka for doing what he’s supposed to.

looking at the early returns, i’m going to guess drogba will not be happy with the final results. you all should vote for him, or expect to deal with serious repercussions when he doesn’t win! (by which of course i mean a crybaby temper tantrum and a general lack of class.)

Lampard might of played a big part in this season but you have to consider the contribution of Essien after his return from injury.

Random addition: Attended (keyword) my first local team match: Carolina Dynamo vs Reading (PDL league team in USL system) and saw this: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/466/image000.jpg while I was wearing my chelsea shirt
