Poll: Do you want Wayne Rooney at Chelsea?

By: Jack | October 20th, 2010

We’re back. Magic City was magnifico.

wayne
London-bound?

What has happened since The CO disappeared into the Peach State? Lots.

We exorcised some significant demons in Moscow. Le Sulk made amends, sort of. Parma and the Old Lady moved in for Borini.

All interesting. All paling in comparison to Rooney-gate.

This may well prove to be the development of the year in world football. Let’s be real, this is already the development of the year in world football.

So Wayne Rooney wants to depart Manchester. He may leave United as early as January. Clubs which can accommodate the England international’s services are at a premium. Among them would be Manchester United, Real Madrid, Internazionale, Barcelona, perhaps a few select others – and, of course, Chelsea. The question, then, comes in two parts:

1. Is Chelsea interested? In a word, yes. Carlo Ancelotti admitted the club would certainly be interested if the striker indeed became available. John Terry and Nicolas Anelka have openly spoken in favor of a move for Rooney as well.

2. Should the club move forward in attempting to acquire Rooney? That, my friends, is an answer I leave up to you.

Here’s a short list of Pros/Cons to help with your decision. Feel free to add your own bullets in the comments section.

Pros
• Age (24)
• English
• Experience (289 appearances for Manchester United)
• Proven (132 goals for United)
• Team-oriented – at least on the field
• Generally hated by the country (he’ll fit right in)

Cons
• Wages (upwards of 150K or higher)
• Media attention – not that the club isn’t already used to such scrutiny
• More controversy
• Upsetting the apple cart

Me, I’m torn on the idea – again. Yes, I have a hard time making up my mind. Yes, I’m a sally. But, then again, the club isn’t paying me to make these decisions – thank goodness.

Anyway. Let me know how you feel on the idea of Rooney moving to London. I don’t know about you, but seeing the man in Chelsea blue is bugging me the **** out.

Must go for him . Forget that little shit Neymar, Rooney would make Chelsea scary good.

Have been reading a few Man U fan's thoughts and the majority would rather sell him to Man City over us! Many of them seem to think that if Chelsea were to acquire Rooney, it would confirm their status as the Premier Club in England. Rooney would just be the latest in a long line of recruits for City, according to them.

If Rooney himself ever gives even the slightest inkling that his preference would be Chelsea... Get Terry, Cole and Lampard in his ear straight away.

  • A lot of great responses so far. Excellent stuff, people.

English is a pro regardless of the media attention. Lest we forget we named just four homegrown players over the age of 21 in this season's squad. As for him being overrated, yes to an extent - I mean, he's still a world-class player, he's just not on the level of a Messi or CRon. I don't think that constitutes a reason to overlook him. Furthermore, our current first-choice forwards are 32 and 31.

If there is a chance at signing Rooney, I don't see how the club could possibly bypass at least inquiring.

Hell no. He's a big baby, overrated, and I don't think he will fit into the front squad which is working so well together. And who the **** cares if he is english? (other than ****wits who are more concerned with nationalism than football, that is). When you have drogba, rooney is a merely a consolation prize. Get rid of anelka? I, too, have been disappointed in him at times, but not as much as rooney! Besides, if anelka keeps up the type of performance against Spartak, I'll take him over rooney any day. Let rooney be dissatisfied somewhere else.

i don't think he'll fit into our system at all...what we need are right wingers and midfielders...no matter how scary a Rooney-Drogs attack force may seem

  • Michael Benoit

Either way its one less threat coming from Man United, wouldn't care if he made is way here
