Poll: Is Ancelotti on the way?

By: Jack | May 14th, 2009

This week in Chelsea football has been dominated by rumors involving Carlo Ancelotti.

The current AC Milan manager was strongly linked with the Blues’ vacant managerial position in the summer and now it appears the 49-year-old is at the top of the list once again. Stories have varied, with some going as far as to say a pre-contract agreement has already been struck between the two parties.

Ancelotti has strongly denied this, and even pledged his future to Milan earlier in the week.  There were even reports suggesting Chelsea had given the manager an ultimatum in the wake of his denials.

The most revealing news, however, was that of Milan president Silvio Berlusconi vehemently attacking Ancelotti’s tactics this season. The first sentence of the quote says it all, really.

“We lost the title because of Ancelotti,” Berlusconi was quoted as saying this week. “Many times we did not use the right tactics. We have so many good ball players and should have based our football on this asset, but we did the opposite.”

Whoa. So does this mean Milan are done with the man who has won a pair of Champions League titles. Not so much. The latest developments say Berlusconi was misquoted. The club’s general manager, Adriano Galliani, had this to say: “I just spoke on the telephone with president Berlusconi and he was flabbergasted to read what was written. I have also talked with him over the past few days and his ideas were not the same as those attributed to him.”

Hell, the Sun reckons Chelsea will unveil Ancelotti tomorrow. Watch this space.

Enough with all this nonsense. Give me something I can use, like a user poll? Those are about as concrete as it gets I’d say.

So people, let me know what you think. Will Carlo lead the Blues next season. Or will we be forced to settle for someone like Marco Van Basten? Please, no.

berlusconi will appear like an ass if he allows ancelotti to manage milan next season… and berlusconi hates being called an ass even though he sometimes is.

I think he’s coming to Chelsea. Apparently he’s gonna stop off in germany on the way there and bring Wolfsburg’s Edin Dzeko with him.

Basically, I think Silvio Berlusconi knows Carlo is out the door and wants to make it look like he pushed him.

to be perfectly honest, I think he will come but I really, really, really don’t want him to. there’s something about ancelotti’s managing style that simply doesn’t fit with chelsea’s power football – italian football mounts a slow attack through possession, defends well, and counter-attacks quickly only if they have players who can carry the ball with pace (i.e. kaka).

I want to see fast paced, physical, power football from chelsea – not molasses slow ancelloti defensive football. I think we should spend a bunch of money to keep hiddink – every man has his price. if we find his, he’ll leave team russia and come back for another season.

I guess I really don’t have say/opinion on this as I have only started to follow chelsea this year… same for football for that matter. Don’t really know the coaches etc

i don’t want Ancelotti, my gut feeling is he’ll be a disaster like scholari and won’t be able to adjust to the pace of the EPL. Rikjard seems to fit the bill better.
