Poll: Should Chelsea spend £40m on Aguero?

By: Jack | November 20th, 2009

Earlier in the week, both the Guardian and Independent — reputable members of the British media in my view — claimed Chelsea were ready to throw around £40 million at Atletico Madrid for striker Sergio Aguero in the January transfer window.

Move forward a couple of days. Now, we’re reading — via the Sun — that Inter Milan are looking to hijack the move. Or, perhaps you prefer the stories reporting that Roman Abramovich is souring on the idea of blowing a British record fee on the 21-year-old Argentinian.

So, I ask: What are you feelings on the man who is rearing Diego Maradona’s grandchild? Should Chelsea splash the cash on Kun Aguero? Let me know.

I think you should. Not only do you look a little short if injuries come up up front, but he’s young and a hell of a talent.

I agree, Rob. I think the squad is in need of an overhaul at the end of this term, regardless. Aguero would fit right in with the idea of building a new, young nucleus to soften the transition. Then again, Carlo is the messiah of aging squads.

So everybody’s just assuming that FIFA was joking around with the transfer ban?

Also, Times Online says that Atletico want £50m for him. A guess, obviously, but is he really worth that much? Or even £40m? Especially since he’s cup-tied for CL this year?

Uh, the ban has been delayed until our appeal is heard by CAS, meaning we can spend freely in January. And yes, a cup-tied 21-yr-old phenom is worth 40m, especially with the feeding frenzy to come in the summer.

Tis a sad day to know that a cup-tied 21 year-old phenom is worth 40m. I blame it on Real Madrid buying Benzema.

I do agree with you Ryan McManus. The prices are just gone crazy lately if you ask me.
Anyway,Chelsea buying Aguero would be a solid invesment I think. It’s also been reported that the choice is between Aguero and Ribery. Not sure what Chelsea needs the most, but both players are big signings.
