Poll: What type of impact will new signing Romelu Lukaku have in his first season with Chelsea

By: Jack | August 19th, 2011

Is this specimen ready to make an immediate imprint at his new club?

I think I can speak for most when I say I’m ecstatic to have Romelu Lukaku in the mix at Chelsea. His potential and lifelong support of the club are more than enough to suggest we have inked not only a wonderful player but a wonderful man as well.

While he will eventually thrive I believe, it’s unsure how long it may take for the Belgian to settle into his new surroundings. Remember, at 18 years old, he’s just a kid – no matter if he does look a chiseled 25. At least. Further, the competition at his position is fierce, and he’s likely to find the Premier League an entirely different monster. Defenders in this league are a tad more accomplished than those in Belgium, I think it’s safe to say.

So, with that being said, what type of impact do you think Lukaku could potentially make this season? Expectations aren’t through the roof from what I can gauge, which is good, but I’m still interested in getting an overall feel for what supporters believe we’re in store for from him this season. Either way, I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the table.

Vote in the poll, then leave a few words in the comments section. KTBFFH

man useless had Chicharito last season, this season we have Lukaku, he's massive and strong, if you have seen the video of him training with the squad he makes Drogbazooka look small and his touch and turn of pace are brilliant and i think with those qualities he could make a great partner for Torres but we shall trust in AVB and see what happens!! I think he must be given time to settle in the EPL. Don't expect too much immediatley. But I think he will score about 10 goals this season, and I think he will become a permanent striker by the last quarter of the season.

  • Interesting that 42 percent think he'll score 10 or more goals this season. That would be astonishing - and awesome.

I hope without playing any single match for his dream club, lukaku has scored many goals for chelsea before he came to the club because i believe any time he score for his former club he will be thinking and wishing to score for chelsea like that, in my opinion having three things in him 1. he said drogba was his idol, 2 he want play for the club since ever before and 3. his dream come to reality. what do you expect from that kind of player at his age. lukaku will proverbly scores many goals for chelsea this season if given chances to play regularly. chelsea for life.

  • Marca reporting Mata to Chelsea is going through. Nothing concrete, but interesting nonetheless. Post forthcoming.

Is that your photo(icon beside your name) jack? you look similar to  lukaku.

  • I think he'll score in the minimal area, if only because that's what his playing opportunities will allow. He'll get a few subs, maybe some starts in less important games, and score a few goals here and there as he settles in. His production will continue as his opportunities and experience does in 1 or 2 years' time, I believe.

And by the time he's 21, we'll have a complete beast of a Chelsea fan! Fingers crossed.

So far we've signed three great prospects in Lukaku, Romeu Vidal and Courtois. We've got a first-class coach, who is young and forward-thinking, speaks excellent English, knows his football better than most twice his age. Is it just me, or does anyone else get the feeling that this might just turn out to be a great season for the club both on and off the pitch? That somehow this season just doesn't seem to start like the ones before? Didn't feel anything like that when, say Carlo was appointed, or Scolari. Villas-Boas really brings something to the table, that youthful passion, infectious enthusiasm towards each and every game. Even the simple thing - the way he watches games from the touchline, nothing like Jose, not a bit of Carlo, he really lives and breathes football, and he is desperate to learn even more. I'm sure his tactical knowledge will eventually show, even if it will take a few games to adjust. But he will react if things aren't going well, he will make THAT sub, that changes the game. He definitely will motivate the experienced and the young, to give all for the shirt. He's not here for a few days until Roman chops him and sends a paycheck. He's in it for the long run. Exciting times, people.

I agree with you on AVB front, but i think our squad is still suffering from alot of the same problems of last year and he hasn't realised fully yet.

  • Chris Harnan

He will only play cup games i think, and maybe some token league appearances for the fans, unless if he does fantastically in those games or there's a huge injury problem.. i don't see him playing ahead of anelka, drogba or torres (or even sturridge)

  • CharlieFineman

He might follow Josh, who actually played a lot, considering his age. Come on here and there as a sub, start a few games, and by Christmas you never know. Let's hope for the best. I would place Kalou on transfer list right after finalizing Lukaku's deal. And maybe Anelka, although if we don't sign a winger, I'd prefer to keep him.

                   Curtois
    someone-Luiz-Rajkovic-Van Anholt
           Josh-Romeu-Piazon
         Sturridge-Lukaku-Kakuta

    Promising future indeed

  • Blue_Juggernaut

lets not forget Lalkovic perhaps de Bruyne if we get him Clifford (Connor and Billy) Todd Kane hopefully on the right, cant wait for Piazon in January hopefully he gets a few games but will need to bulk up

  • CharlieFineman

He took all the pressure off himself by saying that for now he just hopes to learn and get some minutes. I vote moderate, as it really depends on AVB, formation, opponent, and his showing in training.
