Poll: Who do you fancy in the CL quarterfinals?

By: Jack | March 17th, 2011

The Champions League quarterfinal draw is on tap for tomorrow in Nyon. Who do we like then?

Balls.

A lot has been said about our potential opposition in the last eight.

Of course, the idea of Barcelona revisiting Stamford Bridge has been branded about with reckless abandon since our place in the draw was secured last night with a goalless draw with Copenhagen. Even Stale Solbakken, the manager of FCK, managed to weigh in on the prospect.

“If (Chelsea) can handle them in the Camp Nou,” he said, “they have a better chance than Arsenal because of the physique of the team.”

Jose Mourinho wants nothing to do with his former clubs, Chelsea and Internazionale. Such a statement seems likely to backfire. A chance to avenge last season’s exit against the Nerazzurri then?

I put it you to solve the conundrum. Of course, you won’t be solving the actual conundrum, that is unless you know people at UEFA HQ. Or actually work at HQ. If you in fact do, put in a nice word for me.

Anyway, who would you prefer Chelsea meet in the quarters? Schalke seem to be the obvious choice for many, but we’re going to have to dispatch of a heavyweight sooner or later so perhaps we should go ahead and take care of business. Plus, who’s to say Schalke’s an easy out? Let me know who you fancy, and don’t forget to debate the various strengths and weaknesses of the draw’s participants in the comments. I look forward to rapping with you all.

Give us United, please... I would love to see Fergusson's face when he comes back to the bridge, after his five match ban... That would allow the F A to see if he learnt his lesson... (not to talk crap about the champs when you are still only a pretender to the throne.lol)

The obvious answer is anyone but Barca. Id prefer Schalke, then Shaktar, then Spurs, then Inter, Real Madrid, Man U, Barca

  • Dumitru86

schalke or shaktar means we're 100% thru, totts 80%, ManU or Real 60%, barca 30%. thats how i see it. i voted schalke, the easiest imo.

  • zach

    inter please.

  • Schalke garnering 38 percent of the vote thus far isn't that surprising. Barcelona netting 20 percent is, however. I like the confidence of our support - a lot.

  • Watch us draw Tottenham.

funny i was about to suggest this poll a few hours ago, nice

voted madrid. i think it would be an interesting game with two teams full of potential but lacking form at the moment, inter would also be a similar match. on the other hand i wouldnt fancy running behind the ball for 180 minutes against barcelona

  • Sharinganfx

I want barca in the finals so then we can just win it =P

    Schalke and we're through.

I fancy Barcelona as well. If we are to face them, why not now and be done with it? I like our chances over two legs than a one-off final. We would be most motivated to face them. Also, if we beat them, we would definitely become favourites.

Considering its not possible for chelsea to play man utd or tottenham, i dont understand why they are included on the poll...

  • Desailly

Considering that you are ignorant and uninformed, i dont understand why you are posting on this forum...

Hey Jon, don't you remember the 4-4 against Liverpool? What stage of CL was that at? Quarters. Semis was the Barca game.

  • What are you talking about? The draw is open from now until the final.

"The Champions League quarter-finals draw will be open, meaning teams from the same association can be drawn against each other with the ties to be played on 5/6 and 12/13 April."

Every year, it seems more and more that the draws are not entirely random. There's always a story to the game (Beckham gainst United, Mou against Chelsea, final repeats and revenge missions, etc)

    I fancy Barca.

We're one of the few teams on the world that can stop them, unless they have the ref on their side. If Arsenal can beat them, so can we. Then we just need a fair ref in the return game.

If we beat Barca, we get a confidence boost that could send us all the way to the final. Scraping through Schalke or Shakhtar won't help us much.

And if we lose to Barca, let it be now so that we can focus on the league. It would suck to jeopardize the league only to be cheated out of CL by some Ovrebo at a later stage in the league.

  • My gut says Madrid, which would be a mouth-watering tie to say the least. I genuinely believe we can beat them if it comes to pass.

  • Would be ridiculous. I honestly have no idea how that would pan out.
