Rant Box: Chelsea v Sunderland
By: Jack | May 23rd, 2009A relatively quiet close to the Premier League season for Chelsea. Not Sunderland, though.
The Black Cats are in a four-way dogfight for 60 million pounds. When’s the last time Chelsea were involved in a relegation decider anyway?
Hiddink will no doubt opt for a full-strength squad, the threat of first-team players losing form ahead of the May 30 FA Cup Final too real to ignore. Nicolas Anelka will also be looking to wrap up the Golden Boot — he should have a good chance with CRon7 likely missing United’s match against Hull City.
Starting XI
Cech
Ivanovic-Alex-Terry-Cole
Ballack-Essien
Lampard
Anelka-Drogba-Malouda
Prediction
4-1 to the Blues. Was there every any doubt?
Prediction, numero dos
Sunderland will stay up regardless. Newcastle will somehow draw with Aston Villa, while Hull and Middlesbrough both lose. The Messiah, thus, lives up to the nickname.
But, really, who am I kidding? I’ve got no clue what will happen.

just on my way out the door to watch this one. hope i don’t witness the cats going down today. chelsea fans never forget the 80’s and what that sinking feeling is like. wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, let alone Sunderland fans who deserve more for their loyalty and great support over many hard seasons.

3-2 eh kind of a good score to end the season with. Great 2nd half

@jack: i think 93-94 had faint wafts of relegation about it. I remember us relegating Sheff Utd on the last day of the season with a 3-2 win, Mark Stein bagging a brace late on, happy days.

mattsmash is right. I don’t even think Sheff Utd thought they were real contenders to go down before the game and it took some strange results on the last day of the season. Didn’t Everton pull off a shock comeback against Wimbledon or something late on to finish? I can’t remember now – my only lasting memory of that particular day was the sight of grizzly, 25 stone Yorkshiremen crying as they made their way along Fulham Road and wanting to give them a hug
It’s never nice to be relegated.Posted from
