Rant Box: Chelsea v Sunderland

By: Jack | August 17th, 2009

Tough fixture. That’s all that really needs to be said about today’s trip to Sunderland.

Steve Bruce’s renovation project looks solid. And, following a rugged 1-0 result at Bolton to begin the season, the Stadium of Light is certain to be frantic for the the Cats’ home opener.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be looking to improve upon a last-second victory at home to Hull City on Saturday. Chances aplenty, goals few. The diamond, yes, is still a work in progress.

Starting XI
Cech
Bosingwa-Terry-Carvalho-ACole
Mikel
Essien-Lampard-Malouda
Anelka-Drogba

*Need Mikel to gain confidence. Dropping him now could prove detrimental in the long term. Sturridge to find some minutes if Anelka continues to slumber.

What is it about us dominating without really dominating? And what is it about us making average defenders look world class?

Great win indeed! Scary though that we had to concede early and had to fight back in the second half. We must avoid such things against better opponents.
I doubt that Carlo A. has an ideal lineup. No one was expecting Kalou,Deco,Ballack,Ivanovic all to be starters, and not play Anelka, Mikel after halftime.
He needs a consistent starting lineup and not experiment too much.
But Kudos to him for inspiring the guys at halftime.

Deco was sloppy in the first half, with a few good passes. I think he was average, with the fantastic goal. The diamond needs to go though.

seems like those flick on headers from corners were planned, did it like 2 or 3 times. commentators seemed to think they were just bad corners, but if u look at them seems like all the chelsea players know whats comming. Flick on corner worked for the ballack goal, and gave drogba his best chance of the game…

Two wins out of two, Carlo seems to have found his feet. The personal has been there at Chelsea for six or more years now to win the big honours. If Carlo can get them all pulling in the right direction he has a collection of great players in their prime on his hands
