Rant Box: Chelsea v Tottenham
By: Jack | March 20th, 2009Well, this should be interesting.
Tottenham is riding a five-match unbeaten run, sparked by a goalless draw against Arsenal. Chelsea haven’t lost under interim manager Guus Hiddink, a run of six wins in seven matches. Something’s gotta give at White Hart Lane.
If I had to guess, I’d say it would be the Tottenham defense. Then again, ‘Arry Redknapp seems to think his central defensive pairing of Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King is one of the best in England. Is he serious?
Funny thing is, Tottenham was fairly stout defensively — and, more shocking, disciplined — in this season’s corresponding fixture, a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. But, then again, Uncle Phil was in charge of the Blues at that time — and we all know how appalling that period was.
Good news on the player news front for Chelsea: Deco is out injured. Not that I wish harm on the guy but, my god, has he been horrid for us this season. And, to think, we all thought it was going to be rosy following that screamer he scored against Portsmouth to open the season. Joey Cole is still out as well, and our favorite Drogba is said to be suffering through something though it’s believed he’ll play no matter what.
As for Tottenham, I’d guess we’ll see Mr. King in defense — unless he had one of those vintage Ledley benders since there was no game midweek. Alan Hutton has also returned to full fitness, but likely won’t be risked yet. Will Darrent Bent keep his place up top, or will reserve striker Roman Pavlyuchenko get his wish?
Likely XIs
Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, King, Woodgate, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Jenas, Palacios, Modric, Bent, Keane.
Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Terry, Carvalho, Ashley Cole, Essien, Lampard, Ballack, Malouda, Drogba, Anelka.
Prediction
This is going to be a tough fixture, don’t kid yourself. However, with Guus in charge and the Drogba-Essien combo back in the mix, I expect no less than three points. 2-0 to the Chels.

Indeed a tough fixture, I’m not kidding myself, I feel that Spurs could at least get a point from this match.

Damn that hurts. All those chances at the end, Spurs got away with the Alex header, but that’s what you get for outplaying us most of the game. Chelsea started off way too slow, nothing going on the offensive side. Ballack looked lost again, Anelka was somewhat distant from the game too. Lamps and a lot of players crosses from Chelsea just weren’t there.

It hurts.GO ASTON VILLA.hope they can do us justice.Ballack doesnt help lamps.if he has a bad game so does lamps the midfield needs to gel at 100%.I dig ballack but having 2 ops on both ankles at 30 has to kill speed.if he loves chelsea he would leave to salvage whats left of his career in the bundesliga (Gourcuff the definite replacement, hopefully).Width killed us plain and simple.we had no pace.i kinder wished quares would have started so to get into the game.links up well with bosi.he cant always be an impact sub.kalou should have started to just even the odds a little then anelka but hey this is where hinddink has to work his magic. He should really consider stoch.width is going to blow us in champs lge if we dnt work something.dont worry villa will consider their chances after today so lets hope.Go Chelsea

Also, I believe that goal was Boswinga’s fault mostly. He failed to let the ball go out for a goalkick, and decided to play tight rope with the ball, and we never successfully cleared the ball.

We really need some new creative mid fielders now and definitely a new fast forward. Our defense is good its just other parts don’t click. We need some in there to be pulling the strings like the role Deco had at Barca.

That was a great game either way. You can’t deny that Gomez put on a great show. As far as ballack goes I never really knew the guy until after paying attention to him in the last few games and from what I see I don’t like his attitude and he almost always shoots way above the bar. I wouldn’t mind seeing him go.

We were afforded one opportunity, and instead we blew it and lost the advantage on goal diffence in one weekend.
Let’s at least win one cup.

No Steven I’m not clueless….Yes Chelsea did buy Deco but he isn’t the 1 pulling the strings here…Chelsea relies to much on Lampard to deliver and create. They need some1 who can relief the pressure off Lampard…So far no1 have done that this season.Last season Ballack was there and as we can see no other midfielder has more assists than Lamps.

it’s obvious Deco isn’t working out .. just funny to hear you say you need someone like Deco when you have the actual Deco in the squad ..
