Rant Box: Chelsea v West Brom
By: Jack | November 14th, 2008
West Brom at the Hawthorns, eh? I guess we should expect a six- or seven-goal barrage.
We soon shall see.
Coming off the grotesqueness of midweek — a loss to Championship side Burnley at Stamford Bridge on penalty kicks — we all should expect Chelsea to pursue an immediate response. Immediate response? More like a decisive and swift kick to the Albion balls.
My hopes, and dreams, are that Michael Ballack will play a role in today’s match. We also should see Cashley back in at left back. After Wayne Bridge’s performance midweek, I’m nearly splooging with joy over that news. And, of course, there’s Drogs. After his Robin Hood-esque performance against Burnley, I expect the man to throw only goals at the audience this time ’round.
As always, keep me abreast (a breast?) of your views, thoughts and fears before, during and after the match right here. Son.

Man, no comments? Especially after that Bos hit? Come on people!

Bos hit a stunning strike. And remarkably Nic scored a brace! Hah I won’t be surprised if he scores atleast 20 goals this season!

Excellent first-half display. Anelka’s on a roll now, isn’t he!
P/S: Why is everyone raving about Mikel? Why can’t I see anything special about him? All I see is sloppy passes and untimely challenges = freekicks to the opponent. Someone convince me.

Sorry, cannot help, Mikel is a poor player, he gives the ball away easily, cannot hold it, cannot create. Maybe we could suck his life forces and rejuvenate the one and only Makelele – now that was a defensive midfielder.

Yes, lets go Anelka. His form is up and Drogba will need to prove himself now. He has been really lethal. Although we ravaged them during the first half, I was still expecting a thrashing during the second half as well. As for Bosingwa, he is really worth what we payed for him; he is Ashley Cole stamped onto the right side of defense plus he scores goals, what a deal.
@electrify
Okay so here is the deal. Mikel is playing out of position for a start. He is being played at a holding midfielder position (defensive midfielder) where he never plays. He is usually a center midfielder who thrives on the attacking aspect of the game rather than defensive. Unfortunately because the departure of Makelele, Essien’s injury, and Mineiro’s lack of match fitness, we really have very few options for that position (Mikel, Ferreira, and Belletti can all play there)
Also do not forget he is just 21 and has years to develop.
And finally, do not forget his performance against Manchester United this season!Posted from

It should be a good season for Mikel.. given that he doesn’t get a red card or two throughout the season. I’ve seen a couple flashes of brilliance from him– when going forward and dribbling skills.. but his ball control sometimes is just unforgivable.
Ballack is back, Ashley Cole is back (Bridge did well to cover his spot, didn’t he?) so I think we shall resume our normal tendencies to go up top & increase our goal difference by a million. Cheers.
By the way, no notes on possible January signings?

electrify – Ashley Cole was on the bench yesterday and didn’t play, so he is hardly back!!
As for January signings it has been widely reported that Chelsea will NOT buy unless they sell first.

I heard something about snatching the impressive Egyptian striker, Amr Zaki. El Zamalek, Zaki’s former club, realized how big of a hit he was in the Premiership (surprisingly better than he was in the Egyptian League) and have decided to auction him off to the highest bidder and apparently both Manchester City and Chelsea are looking to grab the 25 year old.
And yes, Wayne Bridge did beautifully.Posted from

I don’t know where all this Mikel hate is coming from. If you don’t realize how influential he’s been this season, go and look at the matches he’s not played in and you’ll understand. The kid has fantastic awareness, great positioning and decent distribution. Of course he’s prone to an egregious giveaway/tackle, but he’s still learning.
electrify, I’ve talked about possible January dealings a few times. There are posts on Owen and Gareth Barry in the archives already.

Drogba got a three match ban with immediate effect. Misses games against Newcastle, Woolwich and Bolton.

Haha I haven’t heard someone refer to the Gunners as Woolwich in ages! But oh well, Drogba deserves it and he needs to learn how to control his temper. I believe that if he hadn’t slapped Vidic in the CL Final then Chelsea would’ve been triumphant. However, Anelka is on top form!
