I saw it, it was a good call but an argument can be made as to whether it’s a red or not. The ref says it’s a red so it’s a red however in training discussions refs would challenge it from several angles.

It was a red, Rodallega was clean through on goal and Cech denied him of it.

“Yes that’s most certainly how the ref would’ve seen it too. However there’s an argument to be made for not pulling the red card as well. One of the requirements for Denying and Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity is the direction in which the player is going. In this play the player was in the process of going around Cech so he wasn’t headed straight towards the goal. This isn’t to say that it shouldn’t be a red card, this is just pointing out the discussion referees would have about this play, and the discussion that happened I’m sure with this referee and his crew and assessors after the game.”
I posted this at the Premier front page thingie…I thought I’d just repost it to make the point that referees don’t see things in Black and White.
