Rant Box: Meeelan v Chelsea
By: Jack | July 23rd, 2009Get me to Baltimore.
I’ll be in the mix at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium on Friday night as the Blues continue their preseason tour of the U.S. against old-a** AC Milan. The match marks the Blues’ second game of the World Football Challenge, following a thorough dismantling of The Special One’s rather normal looking — no, less than normal — Inter Milan.
It will also mark Carlo Ancelotti’s first game against his former club. Not much of a wait for that one, eh Carlo?
Expect to see a near full-strength side from the start. I’m need to see a Drogba-Anelka forward line for at least a half. Wouldn’t mind a Sturridge sighting on the right wing, either — just to see if he’s got the juice in that capacity.
As for Milan, what is there to really say. Well, except that they’re really old. And weak up top. And at the back. Not sure what to make of them at this point. But, hey, they can’t be any worse than Inter, right? Right?

Time to Zhirkov!
Yes, kiddies. It’s that time. Yuri Zhirkov has been cleared to join the club in America and will make an appearance against the Rossoneri.
“Zhirkov is working very well now, he can play tomorrow for the first time for Chelsea and I will give him this opportunity to play for us,” Ancelotti said. “He is a new player, very good because his quality we can use for our team. He will play tomorrow.”
Don’t blow it all in one place, now.

Whoa there sir, it’s a friendly, no reason to attack Milan so much. You know, at least Maldini never had an eye for money the way terry does, eh?

1. Stop confusing factual information with attacks. 2. What, you mean like Kaka?

Lol Kaka wasn’t our captain, second going to Madrid is one thing, going to City is another.

Under Big Phil Scolari, we thrashed Milan 5 nil. Last year. That time [Carlo] was their coach and at the same time, it was also a club friendly. The only difference is, Ancelotti is on our side. So was it [carlo’s fault for the defeat, or was it the team? We will find out tonite. But am hoping it was because of the team.

Milan is the very definition of old. Add Pipo Insaghi into the fold, and that’s where the a** part of the equation comes from.

Two of our big signings have scored in their debuts, and I’m really excited for the next season.

Chelsea (before they took their foot off the pedal 15-20 minutes in) was a fearsome sight. Quick, precise passing in the attack and immense pressure on Nesta’s back line. What a strike from Drogba too, I didn’t know he had it in him from distance. Even as Chelsea sat back and played the counter-attack game they looked strong, that is, until a brilliant shot from Seedorf jump started us again.
Zhirkov was great. And we got a Shevchenko sighting! And he had a lot to do with Zhirkov’s goal, so that’s nice. Shevchenko has been such a professional for Chelsea despite all that’s happened, I really hope we can see him coming off the bench regularly this season – that is, of course, if when he’s coming off the bench he’s scoring goals. I love Shevchenko, but even I can’t stick a forward on the pitch who can’t put it in the net.
Lampard was solid but not extraordinary, Mikel was great – I am very much enjoying his refined game. He’s always been a physical player but I used to get frustrated when he’d foul too much and give the opposition free kicks in dangerous areas too often, and he seems to have toned that down a lot. I still might prefer Essien in the holding role. Lampard/Malouda/Essien/Zhirkov lineup in the midfield seems really promising.
