I say good bye Frank and thanks for the memories. I'd feel worse if they let a young guy like Mikel get away or Essien. We got Deco now and I'd like to see Essien and Ballack start in the midfield for every match. Lamps did disappear a lot and his set piece delivery was horrendus most of the time. But from all I hear dude is staying this year so I hope Scolari picks the right midfield and doesn't leave Essien out for Lampard. Maybe rotate some guys who are aging.

I'm not sure entirely how to react at the (very) recent news of Deco's arrival. Although the man has incredible ability, I got into the habit of referring to him as "Dirty Deco" during Chelsea and Barca's series of CL feuds for his ever-present scheming and trickery. Also, he's thirty, and Chelsea already have way too many players in that club. Is the team going to become the next premier old folk's home (a la AC Milan)? And does this suggest Lampard is gone? So many questions...

Not so according to Chelsea or the officials at Inter. Nothing has been agreed upon. If Chelsea really throw a stink and Lampard wants to leave there is always the dreaded "Article 17″ transfer (cue the scary music). That would sure be a hoot to follow.

Lampard will stay at Chelsea if they offer him a 4-year contract. Easy as that. If they dont, then they dont really want him.

As an Inter fan I say "Benvenuto a Milano, Frank!"

For professional sporting reasons, I think Lampsy should head abroad. He plays his best football with Mourinho's ultra-tactical straitjacket system, and, as voiced in earlier comments, I think he'll start to disappear more and more under Scolari's regime. But for emotional reasons, I'll probably be screaming and crying just like the last time I got brutally dumped. Watching Lamps become the player he is now (or more accurately was a couple of seasons ago) with Chelsea was one of the most joyous experiences of my life. He epitomized the TrueBlue cause, and the "Fat Frank" tag only came out of spite from teams who wished they had a midfielder as strong as he.

What's really been plaguing my thoughts recently is the uncertain future of Joey Cole... It would be a huge shame to see that cheeky London lad in any other kit.

Jack, really good stuff, a while back AC Milan lost a pillar of the midfield in Demetrio Albertini who very much like Lamps, eptimized the Milan idea, like Lamps does Chelsea. When Albertini left it was hard to even see him in another uniform, and it didnt make all that much sense, but the new players and systems brought in didnt fit Albertini's style that was that. The two are very similiar to me, and in Lampard's case his career may be better to play in system like Joes's where he has succeeded than floundering in a system for Big Phil.

Terry is Chelsea, and the club will surivive without Lamps, but do they want to?

i've been a chelsea supporter for a bit longer than gino but that doesn't make my opinion any more valid than his. i just don't recommend telling too many football fans that you've been supporting chelsea since 06/07, unless you mean 1906, you may get the good ol' glory hunter tag. lampard was the first kit i bought in the mourinho era and it's ironic that he's probably going with him to inter. i love lampard and think his game is great. however, essien and ballack are probably better at this point than he is. the way scolari plays and has played in the past doesn't favor a midfielder like lampard who is, at times, somewhat one dimensional. if you watch the portuguese play, aside from seeing them disappoint a number of times, you'll see that everyone except the lone striker is expected to defend their position rather vigorously coming back. lampard is the wrong side of 30 and we'll live with losing his talent. give the "new" guys a shot, when they score the winner in the 90th against united or the scousers in the cl final, you'll be lovin them like you're lovin lamps right now.
