The infamous teeth brusher

By: Jack | November 10th, 2009

While Chelsea were cleaning up on the field, David was, too — in the stands.

In what surely has to be considered one of the great moments in Stamford Bridge history, if not footballing history, the man we all now know broke out the ol’ toothbrusher for a quick cleanse in the final minutes of Sunday’s 1-0 home win over Manchester United.

SPORT Teeth 213849

By now,  you all should have seen this. But there’s no doubt we must not only post it here at Chelsea Offside for archival purposes, but collectively discuss his thought process.

BBCRadio 5 Live phone-in 606 host DJ Spoony actually got to speak to the now infamous responsible party, known only as David. Here’s how he explained the action: “I was wanting to get to the game and I put it [the toothbrush] in my pocket and forgot to brush my teeth. I thought no one was looking. I always brush my teeth before I go anywhere. I thought no one was looking at me.”

Really?

I beg to differ. For my money, the guy — who, coincidentally looks shockingly like Terrell Owens — is trying to erase a bitter taste from his mouth, the same one I always get when I first notice that Salomon Kalou is about to enter a match. Thoughts?

You know, we really need a Top 5 Stamford Bridge crowd moments. Any suggestions?

I was at the Bridge watching the Blues v Burnley on 29th of August. I was sitting in Lower East Family stand (next to away subs). There were some moments off the field, which made me laugh :> First, it was Owen Coyle getting up to shout some tactics; every single time he stood up, he had to pull his shorts up. No joke, he had most of the kit on, and I bet, if it were up to him, he’d take that top off and jump right in the action :> then there was an old man in the wheelchair, who couldn’t sit in the stands (because of his disability), so he was allowed to sit next to safety stewards. For most of the game he behaved, but then, once one of the Clarets was down due to some durrty tackle, the old guy almost jumped out of his wheelchair, screaming ‘That’s a fuckin dive!! Get up you cheat!’. Nothing unusual there, just didn’t see that one coming :>
Also watched Liverpool, this time in the Lower Shed End stand, but didn’t see anything worth mentioning. Got some pictures from both games; iphone quality tho.

Kalou isn’t that bad, he did get the only goal in this same fixture last year…

He’s done somethin drogba hasn’t done, score against ManU in league play… Though I am in no way saying that Kalou is anywhere near Drogba’s level of quality and superiority.

I know it was strange to see the guy standing there in the dark wearing sunglasses for a start and then to start cleaning his teeth right behind the bench when a substitution was being made, and added to that he was standing up!!!

I didn’t think anyone would see me! Yeah Right.
