Torres again? Seriously.

Not again.

Roman Abramovich must love Fernando Torres. Mancrush-style. Or he really, really enjoys pissing off Liverpool, supporters and all.

Romes has once again sanctioned a bid for the petulant one. No joke. The slew of media reports which have surfaced inside the last 30-odd minutes suggest the bid, swifted rejected by Liverpool, was between £35-40 million.

A Liverpool spokesman apparently said: “Chelsea have made an offer for Fernando, which has been rejected. The player is not for sale.”

No shit. Of course they don’t want to sell.

I’m not sure what to make of this. It’s come out of the blue. And, really, who on earth thinks £35m is going to be enough to tempt Liverpool to wave bye-bye to their finest player? Then again, who knows what’s going on in the head of Torres? He’s cut a detached figure at times this season, though recently, under Dalglish, he’s begun to rekindle the flame.

Is he worth £30m much less £50? Not for me. There’s not doubting the skill of the player, just the fitness and commitment. He hasn’t been El Niño in over a year. At 26, he has time to return to the forefront but I just think there are better options available – same as Luiz.

Still, if Roman is indeed genuine in his pursuit – rather than this simply being an attempt to appease us the fans by pseudo-showing his commitment – then I applaud the move. We need to restore our intent on the world level, and it starts with rebuilding this squad. I guess we’ll know more about the club’s intent here if a renewed bid is made. Stay tuned.

liverpool have taken Suarez for £22.8 million. And we didnt make any signings!Niether attacker nor defender.I think there is some problem with our negotiators...

  • Desailly

maybe a reason we didnt consider signing boateng was that we still hated him for the attempted murder of herr ballack in last year's FA cup final.

  • Sharinganfx

    but then ballack left lool

  • Sharinganfx

here's a question, why don't we sign Suarez?? Ajax gonna let him leave but reds can't afford him. He's strong and has shown what he can do. We really need to get some good people doing our scouting for us...I randomly had a thought about why we didn't sign kevin-prince boateng, he would've been way way better than Beni.

  • Gary

The story is not true. Who is ‘Liverpool spokesman’, some fan? Chelsea would never go for Torres. They are looking for young players that will remain for many years to come. And they would not pay that amount for someone who is so injury prone. They have those problems already. Ancelotti has made it clear that Luiz is their only buy in this transfer window, and Benfica have confirmed it.

  • Max

False. There is solid proof we made a bid, and it's reported all over skysports (can't think of anything more solid and trustworthy except maybe BBC). Even Guillem Balague said so! He knows his stuff, and if anybody disagrees go read his blog and do some research on him. Balague is very well connected.

  • Ray

As I have been saying in other posts ..we n-e-e-d an attacking player please!!

  • Sloany

should of done that bid for benzema!!

  • wisesageknowledge

luiz is a necessity, something about watching what will be the best CB in the world makes me think that 25 mil is a deal. give it 2-3 years. but torres - nahhhhhhhh, we can find another female impersonator for cheaper.

  • Brett_Rory_Thomas

I can't believe we'd embarass ourselves with a seemingly pointless bid unless there was some ground to the story. Either someone at Chelsea knows something the rest of us don't or they're a bunch of crass feckwits

  • Regarding the later: It wouldn't be the first time, unfortunately.

  • Henry

Torres is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but i see more potential in Aguero, he's young and, in my opinion, is in the top 3 strikers in the world so far this season.

I would welcome Torres, aslong as there isn't a cheaper, but just as good, option

  • arn00b

This is the problem with Chelsea. Going after players only after they become super expensive and decline in quality a bit. We have no interest in any player until his price tag goes beyond 20million.

That and Ancelotti said he didn't want him, yet the idiots who make the decisions are making their own stupid decisions together yet again.

Torres is only good when everything around him is working perfectly. The moment things go bad, he starts becoming petulant and crap. We need someone who at least tries to play well, even if things are not going well.

"Oh, but he was alone up front, Hicks' email, Gillette, Hodgson said...etc"

That means nothing. It's one thing to not be playing well because of external factors, it's another when you don't even try.

    Tevez tries, Torres cries.

    Sorry, not interested.

  • Dan

Torres has the WOW! factor for shure and not at his peak yet! cmon Roman, buy him for us PLEEEAAASSE!!!! and show us chelsea fans u still care by spending the dosh!

  • Sean - you are so beyond misinformed its unbelievable. We Liverpool FC fans love Torres and I have no idea where you came from with 'wanting him gone'. There's silly and then theres that.

  • droggles

It's ridiculous how you say you're representing the entire Liverpool fanbase. Most liverpool fans I know wouldn't mind him gone if it brings a lot of money and a few good players in return, especially a DM.

  • I go to matches weekly, I frequent LFC forums daily, I talk to my mates every time we sit and play FIFA 11. Im not saying im the ultimate fan, but I think I can confidently gauge what Liverpool fans want and don't want, thank you very much. Most Liverpool fans want him. He's more than just a player to us, he's a talisman, a symbol of potential better times not to mention arguably the most marketable person in the premier league. If we lost him, its a sign that we lack ambitions of moving forward.

Regardless of what you think, i'd rather you not question what 'Most liverpool fans want'. Thats ridiculous, IMHO

  • Russell

I'm a liverpool supporter, and even though Torres isn't playing his best football, I can't see us playing well without him. I feel it would be a major confidence decrease in the team. I don't know what we would do without him.

  • ARE chelsea so f...kin stupid this is so dum look torres and pepe have told everyone NO every transfer time.
Hard for russians to understand the word NO might be the N or the o .

3 weeks ago he was worth £10m with the whole of Liverpool wanting him gone. Again, we have acted too late. Nobody can deny his talent, he is the best striker in the world on his day, Drogba isn't his old self and he even surpasses Villa in my opinion. Rooney just runs around..

This may just prove that the Atletico bid the other day was genuine. We clearly need some new strikers, we all know the predicament we are in. I heard Torres is the biggest selling shirt in Asia so maybe, signing him would bring commercial benefits such as sponsorship, shirt sales and an increased fan base. I personally don't think he will leave Liverpool now as I think we acted too late, the new owners are in and are trying to rebuild the side. I only think he will go if he personally hands in a transfer request but I am sure he already knew he had an offer from us before this bid was lodged. Hopefully we play on the premise that he can win the Champion's League this year! Him and Drogba may even be able to play together! The fact we let Kakuta go on loan suggests that we will be bringing someone in. It could be an interesting few days. Sky Sports reported that Carlo wanted him which also suggests his posistion at the club is being backed- which is good. We need to rebuild we all know that and if we need to bring in a new striker then who better than Torres? He is proven in England and although he is injury-prone we can work around that, especially if we have good cover. His goalscoring statistics are remarkable and I would be delighted if this were to go ahead, it would certainly make the upcoming fixture against Liverpool very interesting!

Torres is the best! thats why Roman wants him and i would'nt put it passed him to go upto 70 million to get his man

  • Like your post. I'm a Liverpool fan. However when are you lot going to get famous of your own backs? Fed up with your chasing of Gerrard and Torres they are not Scotty parkers to be bought and sold. conclusion.... Do one and that said in the nicest possible way.

  • I can't help but feel that Nando will soon be back to his old self. Pool of course as going to play hardball, but on current form I'm with you Jack- no way he's worth that much. There are other strikers worth looking into- Tevez given his discontent, Pato if Milan are going to sell, Neymar could prove to be the real deal, Bojan perhaps, etc.

  • Don't forget Aguero, either. So many options.

  • Any truth to the rumor that Athletic rejected 52 million for Kun and Godin?

  • Given this information, I'd think there has to be some truth to it. Perhaps Roman has finally realized that rebuilding must be done. It's all very interesting, particularly with there being only four days left in the window.
