Qualifying for the 2010 UEFA European Championships in Poland and Ukraine began Thursday. One of our latest signings took center stage.

Yossi digs in.

Israel defeated Malta 3-1 in Ramat Gan to open play in Group F. Blues utility midfielder Yossi Benayoun collected all three goals, as the Israelis got their Euro trek off to a flyer. Our newest ladies’ man opened his account after only seven minutes. He added a second at 65, from the penalty spot, before completing the treble 15 minutes from time. All three were of the opportunistic variety, as you will see below.

More of this in the blue of Chelsea then, Yossi?

  • Don't get cocky. It was Malta. Israel fielded a team about as talented as the Chelsea reserves, and played against the equivalent of Dagenham. Malta is ranked 151 by FIFA. That's only a couple of spots above New Caledonia. Good for Yossi, I hope he didn't have to break a sweat.

Yeah, out of control cocky Jack, talking about him scoring opportunistic goals and hoping that he will score for Chelsea, too. Some nerve you've got.
