Late last week, reports surfaced that Chelsea was close to inking FC Porto fullback Jose Bosingwa. That was out of nowhere.
Now, the weirdness is official. A statement on the club’s wesbite reads: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm we have reached agreement with FC Porto for the transfer of Jose Bosingwa. The player is now in England to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.”
The transfer fee is believed to be in the region of £16.2 million. Boswinga agreed on a three-year contract.
United were considered front-runners for, what, a few months leading up the transfer. We weren’t even mentioned in the conversation. Must’ve been a series of super-secret meetings between Porto and Kenyon that secured the 25-year old right-sided player, who can slot in a right-back or in midfield.
I know little of the player, but Alberto da Silva, a journalist for World Soccer magazine, isn’t sold on the move. As told to the BBC: “He’s a good player but he’s not worth that much money,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. I think Chelsea’s current right-back Paulo Ferreira is a better player. I don’t know who negotiated the deal, but he did well for Porto.”
I’m not going to lie, 16 is a hefty sum for this kid. But, its Roman’s noodles, so who cares? Anyway, where are my Portugese readers? Give me some insight into what you think of the deal. One thing’s for sure, dude’s got a mean unibrow.

Your Portuguese readers are busy reading MY musings on these topics ;-). All kidding aside, I wrote about his potential move a few days ago and incorrectly speculated 30 million Euros to United, but there’s a little more insight on why he’s coveted if you want to track back and check the post here.
Alberto da Silva is an assclown. Bosingwa’s easily worth 20 million Euros in Chelsea factor money (take a valuation, multiply by anywhere from 1.25 to 1.5 and that’s what Chelsea will pay for a given player). To call Paulo Ferreira a better player than him at this moment is a JOKE and is without any real merit. I’d love to know how “duh” Silva came up with that evaluation, especially given the fact that over the past year Paulie F’s playing time has dwindled to almost nothing and that he’s mostly getting any of his playing time on the left back side of the Portuguese national team due to him being third choice on the right behind Miguel, and you guessed it, Jose Bosingwa.
A back four of Ca$hley, Ricky C, Johnny T, and Bosingwa will give Chelsea a real attacking danger from both rear channels and free up Michael Essien to play his more natural midfield position.
You can make the “not worth the money” argument for most any player initially for the most part, and to dismiss the transfer as being way too expensive without seeing him step on the field in a Chelsea shirt is speculative asininity (yes, it’s a word) at best. That, coupled with his remarks about Ferreira > Bosingwa make him seem not only incredulous but downright dumb, since objective facts don’t even go to support his claim.

If Bosingwa was good at 15.8 Millions to ManU then how come he is bad for Chelsea at 16.2 Millions.
It was an open secret that Chelsea’s has a weakness in the right back and Jose seems to be nice addition.

Bosingwa is better than Paulo Ferreira, he’s more aggressive, athletic, extremely fast. He crosses to the area very well and is able to take the ball from defense to attack very quickly.
As a man, he’s not as reliable as Paulo, he’s a bit of a nutter and recently he’s had plenty of injuries.
A good buy for Chelsea but why do you need another right-back? That is called greed!

@ fromporto
Belletti will be gone very soon and we will only have two right-backs.

Well to compare Paulo Ferreira and Jose Bosingwa it is unfair.
Paulo is a mor solid defender and when he joined Chelsea he was only considered the best left back in Europe. Jose Bosingwa, is different far more attacking type of left back, very very fast and quick thinker, turns defence into attack extremelly quick.
Chelsea will be well furnished aith these 2 left backs, no doubt in my mind.
But speaking with a very good freind of Jose Bosingwa that plays here in Germany, if it was not for the slaray in Chelsea J Bosingwa would not join Chelsea, he would prefer to go to ManU, but money talks. J Bosingwa confided and discussed it with his friend, here in Germany, they played together in Porto team and is portuguese as weel, that the only reason to join VChelsea was the salary, as he feels that the present Chelsea management has nothing to teach him, in the contrary in ManU he felt that he could improve as a player with Queiroz and A Ferguson, besides he is a very close friend of Anderson and used to talk a lot.
So you see, money talks, and the difference in salary took Bosingwa to chelsea, not the magnitude of the club, or the manager.Posted from
