Who is Marco Storari and why are we signing him?

By: Jack | January 29th, 2009

We let Carlo Cudicini go. OK, that’s fine.

But we go right out and sign a 32-year-old on-loan backup? I’m confused.

Chelsea have wasted little time in tying up a replacement for Carlo, eyeing up Marco Storari, currently on loan from AC Milan at Fiorentina. First, Storari doesn’t even start for Fiorentina. Second, if he’s not good enough to challenge the likes of Kalac, Dida, etc. at Milan, then why are we chasing him? Seriously, how bad do you have to be to get sent on loan over Dida? My word.

Third, and most important, what the hell is wrong Hilario? In my opinion, Hilarious has filled in quite admirably when called upon. So why bring in another 30-plus keeper? Can’t Rhys Taylor be third choice? This is baffling.

More terrible business from Chelsea. Oh, and there’s more. Apparently, the Blues have delayed the deal, instead asking for five DVDs of Storari in action before making a final decision. Are you kidding me? Busch league.

As a Fiorentina fan I can tell you from what i’ve seen of Storari, i’ve been impressed, he started against Milan the other Sunday and although he can’t be at fault for the goal he made numerous other impressive saves as well as in the pre-season games.

Thx for the input, Mike. And, while I see where you’re coming from, I don’t really think talent has anything to do with it. I feel like we have a solid No. 2 and a young No. 3. I just don’t see the need for another GK — unless he’s a young prospect.

Well he would be a decent back-up to Cech… but Chelsea fans will be left wishing for petr cech to have injury free next season…

Hilario is an adequate back-up. He proved it many times as for Storari coming, it only has to do with having the right experience, but the argument against this signing which hasn’t happened yet – how are the kids supposed to get experience?

Take Stoch for example. 10 brilliant minutes against Stoke, no where to be seen against Ipswich even at 3-1, and only got about two minutes against Middlesboro and will he get any match time against the Scum on Sunday?

Yeah right don’t make me laugh
