Who Wants An Amauri?
By: Jack | March 5th, 2008
Chelsea do. You want to know why? Because we need more one-name players at the club. Yeah, we’ve got Alex but defenders don’t really count do they?. We need sans-surname attackers. Just look at the list: Ronaldinho = CL title; Ronaldo, same; Prince, mad Grammys. What else do I need to say? Case closed.
Wait. This argument sucks. Whatever I’m gonna roll with it.
Back to the real topic. Palermo striker Amauri revealed that Chelsea had, in fact, contacted his agent about his availability. The 6-foot-2 Brazilian has garnered interest, and even bids, from the likes of Barcelona, Juventus, United & Villareal. Palermo values the 27-year-old at £19 million (whoa).
Thoughts on this guy? I’m not sure if we’re indeed interested, or if we were before inking Anelka. However, with Drogba’s future at the club in doubt he could prove a quality addition — though I’d prefer a younger player. In regards to him, he’s got good strength, is strong in the air and adds a bit of creativity to his play. Moving pictures below.

He’s a player with loads of potential Amuari and has been linked with all the top sides in England and across Europe. Have to agree that a younger player would be a better option and you do wonder if he’s that good then why hasn’t another ‘top club’ snapped him up before?

Being a Palermo fan I’ll put in my 2 cents. The big, powerful guys seem to take more time to mature than the quick, speedy forwards. Drogba never really came into his own until a few years ago himself. He (Amauri) had major knee surgery after tearing his ACL last winter, but had 9 goals through the first half of the season. He probably would have hit 20 Serie A goals if he stayed healthy, he was just starting to get going and then got hurt. He probably wouldn’t even be at Palermo this year if he didn’t get hurt though. Amauri is a very well rounded player and I think he would do great in the EPL with Chelsea. The last few games he has played out of his mind, if our players were decent, he would have about 4-5 assists easy.
