Rodney, Dylan Thomas and inspiration

It’s a ******* disgrace

Blog commenter Chelsea provided me with the inspiration for this post in today’s Rant Box.

Inspiration, there wasn’t much of that visible at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Perhaps Rodney Dangerfield can coax some from our players, and our manager, in the aftermath. Like Rodney, we seem to get no respect – not from critics and the mainstream mind you. He stuck it out, however, and, in the end, became a comedic legend. He also, in the face of immeasurable odds (an academic review), delivered one hell of a recital of a Dylan Thomas classic.

Take note, Carlo and company. This is how you respond to adversity.

Do not go gentle into that good night
By Dylan Thomas
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, ‘Chelsea Football Club,’ there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

    Apologies if this comes off as spam. I normally post on the Roma Offside, but thought this would be of interest to the Blues fans and gamers over here.

    I'm part of a gaming industry campaign to raise funds for Japanese disaster relief through onlie auctions of rare memorabilia. It's mostly been crazy stuff like signed copies of Call of Duty games, but I've got something that I think pertains to this audience:

    I'm auctioning off a Winning Eleven 9 (PES 5) game insert signed by John Terry for charity.

    There are less than 24 hours to go on it. Please get in on it if you're interested, and I may even throw in a copy of the game if you want to put it in a case!

    I Love It! Thanks! Let's hope on that day St. Crispin's day of ours, Carlo Ancelotti will be 'King Henry' and the Chelsea players will be up to the challenge.

    And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
    From this day to the ending of the world,
    But we in it shall be remembered-
    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
    For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
    Shall be my brother;

    We, the fans, certainly are. Fired up and ready to go!

    On a brighter note, Drogba and Torres were both called up to compete in the doubles synchronized diving competition in next years Olympics. 50m well spent!

  • Karl! How were the Pyramids?
