Photo of the Day: Remembrance

A day after he guided Chelsea to its first Champions League final ever, Avram Grant traveled to Poland for the March of the Living — an educational tour for Jewish teens which focuses on the Holocaust. Grant visited Nazi death camp Auschwitz with his family Thursday along with some 10,000 attendees. He gave a speech to the crowd, speaking of his father, Meir, now 80, who is a Holocaust survivor. Meir fled Poland in 1941, living in a Russian forest. At 15, he witnessed both parents and five of his six siblings die. He buried them with his own hands.

During the CL match, Grant wore an armband in honor of his father on Holocaust Memorial Day — which was also Thursday. I think I speak for us all when I send the kindest of thoughts to Grant during this time of remembrance.

Auschwitz is a powerful place. Its hard to imagine the scale of the atrocities until you see the size of the place and all the buildings.
