Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Chelsea
By: Andy | October 26th, 2006Jose sent out a clear message of intent last night at Ewood Park with his selected team announcing ‘We want to win the Carling Cup.’ The Blues cleared the first obstacle with a 2-0 win courtesy of Joe Cole and Salamon Kalou goals in the second-half.
In the draw for the fourth round Chelsea were paired at home to recent point-stealers, Aston Villa. The game is at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday 8th November.
At a rainswept Ewood Park (the match was in danger of being postponed), 14,732 hardy souls turned out to see Ballack, Essien, Ashley Cole, John Terry, Makelele, Joe Cole and not even the most optimistic could not have wished for a better Chelsea starting line-up.
On the bench were Didier, Frank and Shaunie and these three were given a late run-out and Shaunie made an instant impact creating Chelsea’s second goal for Kalou in the 81st minute when Blackburn’s goalkeeper Friedel spilled a fierce Shaunie shot.
Next up: Sheffield United away on Saturday K.O.12.45pm (UK Time)
