Rumor Roundup: Carlo Out in the Summer?

By: Devin | March 10th, 2011

In keeping with the theme of introducing new ’segments’ to the blog, I present to you the ‘Rumor Roundup’, wherein we’ll try to tackle the nonsensical banter that floats across the wire as often as we can. This week, we look at comments given to Sports Illustrated by FIFA Agent Carrie Baird, regarding all things Chelsea. Video and link under the hood:

Roma Calling.

It would appear, that Carletto has come to a verbal understanding with Romes regarding his departure this summer. Baird claims that both parties have mutually agreed to part ways after the close of the season, with the notion that Carlo will be free to take on his dream job in Italy. Which, mind you, leaves us once again playing the usual game of Managerial Musical Chairs.

I can’t embed the video into the post for some technical reason, but you can read the synopsis and watch the video here. Among Carrie’s claims:

1. Chelsea are keen on brining in a Dutch coach, with the expectation that Frank Rijkaard, Marco Van Basten, or Henk Ten Cate are at the top of the list. The Special One is also on the shortlist, but a long shot at best to return.

2. Guus Hiddink, he of our glorious past, would be more suited to a role as a Technical Director of Football Operations, and will not be considered for a permanent coaching set-up at SW6.

3. The club, particularly Roman, would prefer to employ the 4-3-3 formation, and will be looking to recruit players in the summer that can map to this set-up. This implies that Neymar, Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard, and a whole host of young starlets will be getting long looks from the scouting network.

4. Apparently, before snatching Bob from Benfica, we attempted to lure Shakira’s beard from the grasp of Barcelona.

5. We also tried, in vain, to get Andrea Pirlo back in January from AC Milan, with the understanding that Carlo knew things were rough and needed an immediate response to solve the crisis of our creaky midfield form and to further the development of young Jedi Joshy.

…if nothing else, watch the video to get a true sense of what Carrie’s suggesting. If even 5% of what she says is true, it suggests that Romes has come full-circle and decided he wants a more hands-on involvement in the club’s affairs, which we know can be both rewarding a perilously frustrating.

I’m not one for such gossip but it’s welcome for all to participate in the comments section and let us know what you think about this latest string of media assertions about the club.

I dont think carletto is leaving, If Roman wanted him out, he would would have been gone already as well as not spent 70m on players if he didnt want him. I think Carlo will get 1 more season as Roman will want chelsea to give another crack at CL for another season after this one.

Carlo wont quit himself or he will lose over 10m in severance pay if he got sacked also Carlo knows he wont get the same funds and chances to win silverware with Roma as he has with chelsea. Carlo will go to Roma but only if he gets sacked but i dont think he will this season or the next.

  • If Carlo feels undermined, as he may well (summer clearout, Wilkins departure), I could see him resigning after the season. In fact, I'm beginning to lean toward that path ever so slightly.

+1 for Villas Boas.. That cats eating Mourinho's records at Porto for breakfast.

  • Aj

yes but i doubt if he can win more than Mourinho, 2 league tites, 1 uefa cup, 1 CL, 3 domesic cups.

It's more difficult to win CL with this new format - with Barca-refs rule, etc, but I think that he can win other competitions where Barca aren't involved.

  • Never say never. This man is the goods.

I hate Pique. Dirty player, dirty attitude and a spitter.

It looks more and more likely that Carlo would be leaving. His dream job opened up and it won't be open for too long. I highly doubt that Roma would hire someone for a year just to wait for Carlo to finish his London business.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I'd want Guus Hiddink as our next manager. ~hides~ Actually, I wouldn't mind him in any position in CFC, including Right Back.

As for manager, the Dutch list doesn't impress me. Van Gaal is a crazy, high-risk manager. His lineups and teams seem more and more like gambles based on gut instinct rather than a hard study of the game.

We need someone who is more of a tactician and less of a personality/successful gambler/madman. Mourinho is a coach that watched DVDs of games 7 times, making notes at every moment. Van Gaal is someone who showed his balls to the team to tell them "he has the balls to drop anyone if they're not performing."

On second thought, Chelsea could use that from time to time...

But other than that, I don't like his style. It's like Mancini's polar opposite, and if we get him, expect more 3-3 thrillers.

Henk Ten Cate? You know how Scolari washed up and ended up in the Middle East or Central Asia or something... well this guy is already there. I'm sorry, but there is a hierarchy in leagues, and Qatar is not in the top 30 leagues in the world. And how's he doing over there? Well, his team are 8th..... in a 12 team league.

If we want to take a small risk, let it be Villas Boas. Mourinho once said that he's a good coach because he didn't play much, and all the time that people spent playing, he spent improving his coaching skills and advancing his career. Well, Villas Boas NEVER PLAYED professionally. He went straight into coaching. He was coaching a National Team at 21.

Bring him young and tie him down. He could be our SAF.

mou could have been your saf but your stupid owner sacked him in beginning of season for a stupid reason.

I know, and we'll never forget that, but the age of long-serving managers is disappearing. In the PL, it's just SAF, Wenger and Moyes. Pulis comes next with 4 years of service, but that's it.

The rest, you know that most won't not going to make it for more than 3 years: Hodgson? Avram? Carlo? McCarthy? Pardew? Houllier? Kean?

Even the more successful ones.... Redknapp is eyeing the England job, and the sheikhs must soon realize that Mancini has crap tactics that are both boring to watch and don't bring much success.

This is the era of journeymen managers, and it's unfortunate for the other teams, since the league will most surely go to a long-serving manager this year.

  • Plus, Mourinho's not a long-term guy. I reckon he would have left at the end of the season regardless. I love him to death, but those are the facts.

  • Aj

I dont think so, In a recent interview in real madrid Tv, he said he thought at chelsea he found home and would stay for life but look what happened, you can never tell in football.

  • Oh god, I'm just glad we didn't get Pique.

  • don

Pique is not for sale at barca.
