Marca: Valencia reject bid from Chelsea for Mata?

Ignore Rudy and the Barca v. Madrid love-in. Check out that little nugget in the bottom left corner of the cover. That’s what we need to be concerned with.

While today’s front of Marca focused on this small matter of a Spanish Super Cup, rightfully so, there was some information on a potential bid from Chelsea for Valencia winger Juan Mata. It was around €25 million and was rejected, as the bats are holding out for a cool €30m.

Guillem Balague spoke on talkSport later today, saying that “Valencia are expecting a big bid from Chelsea for Mata.” I assume he’s speaking of an improved off from us. OK then.

Well now we have an update on the Marca website, with a video piece headed by some prose that seems to suggest that Valencia are very much open to selling Mata – not just to us I’m thinking as Arsenal are also said to be interested in the 23-year-old. They say the “soap opera” regarding the player was basically over until we threw our hat into the mix. Do we believe them? Not on your life.

Anyway. I’ve seem him a few times and represents a nice option. Not exactly a true winger, but a highly talented offensive player who can provide versatility across the front. Great movement and vision, sort of in the David Silva mold. But that’s just my opinion, though. I’m more interested in what you think.

So, what are you thoughts? Do you even think we are in for the player? Let me know guys. Further, if you have more info on the potential transfer let it fly. We’d be most appreciative. KTBFFH

  • We already have wingers, we need a playmaker. Bring in Sneijder.

  • Wait, did you just say we already have wingers? Where may I ask are they?

I think Eden Hazard (also a fabulous player) could hold the key here. Lille were quoted as placing a 26m fee on him and Wenger is very interested in bringing him in. Whether or not Wenger would part with that sort of money though is another matter. The season has already started and we have already dropped 2 points against our biggest rivals. It doesn't sound a lot but come the end of the season it could make all the difference. Chelsea should stop pissing around and bring either Hazard or Mata in at the price their club's want and also get Moderic in NOW. Forget Neymar, he doesn't want to leave Santos and they won't sell end of!

great news , mata will be an awesome signing ! ive watched him for a few years now and he is a great player on both wings , attacking mid and up front , he got a sweet left foot and great for corners & free kicks , neymar ,hazard & mata were my 3 faves for he left wing , fingers crossed this happens , mata-torres-sturridge front 3 will be awesome ! all we need then is nasri, modric or moutinho for midfield and we will be in great shape for the new season , KTBFFH

in other transfer news, Luka sat out of Europa today and while Ol 'Arry says it has nothing to do with a possible transfer, I don't believe it.  I have said here before that I didn't think Luka was worth 30 million but finally realizing the magnitude of our midfield's inability to give Torres---who has decided to start playing--service has changed my mind on the matter.  Rumors are that Yossi and Kalou are being thrown in to make the deal go through.  It kinda sucks that Yossi never got a real shot at succeeding at the Bridge, but that's life I suppose.  I echo one of the other commentators on here who labeled Kalou, "at best, a super-sub," which I totally agree with.  Getting rid of Yossi and Kalou would free up our squad for Luka and Lukaku (btw, what is holding up that transfer? Apparently it's going through in the next 24 hours or so but we'll see) as well as maybe one more player, and in my opinion, definitely cements Sturridge's position in the starting XI once he gets back from suspension (which can't come fast enough).  Can't wait to see what happens in the next two weeks.

In the meantime, keeping mikel's family in my thoughts (btw, great post on that the other day Jack).

I don't mind Kalou going out, because that opens up space for Lukaku and Sturridge, but I think we need Yossi still.

Good player but I don't know if he's worth 30 million. It's an option but i feel that he's not quite at the level Chelsea are or need to be or help them to get there. Lets not forget that we don't buy players to make torres play well. we buy player to make the team play better. For me the answers lies in the 45 million rated Neymar. He really is something different. Im not saying he's worth every penny but he has the potential to reach or even overpass that rate. Mata is just another malouda. He's good, versatile, might need time to adjust like malouda did but not world class.

I wonder if Chelsea have taken a look at Eden hazard this kid is pure magic, about 3 years younger than mata for the same price.
