Blues bid £14m for Everton’s Rodwell. Huh?
By: Jack | November 15th, 2009Outlets across the board reported Saturday that Chelsea have launched a preliminary bid for Everton kiddie Jack Rodwell. The number I’m seeing — and I’m rolling with the Independent on this — is £14 million.
Wow. Of course, it was rejected by David Moyes & Co. who value Rodwell at £20m. Hmm, a hefty sum that. Is this young starlet worth it?

Worth a cool 20 million?
Of course not. But he’s young and English. Thus ridiculous fees are inherent.
What I do know is that this kid can play. Primarily a defensive midfielder, Rodwell — who has also attracted the interest of Manchester United and Arsenal — has already made 18 appearances this season for the Toffees. This at just 18 years old. His long-term future appears to be in the central of defense, where most reckon he’ll be the next Rio Ferdinand — minus the dip in form, naturally.
Do I like this move? I do, I really do. I’m not sure about £20m, but 15 would be good business. What do you guys think?

I also want the lad.he is chelsea material and the scousers do produce good english players hence rooney but 20mil?! Like you said jack,i would settle for 15mil. It would be nice to add to the english continguent.maybe he’s worth it considering the mancs payed 26mil for shrek at the same age.it is better to invest in a youngster than a ’shevchenko.’ we’ll at least get 5 years off him to get our money back.we’re also in for conor wickham (new rooney.) also this other kid, sterling(new walcott) is making headlines, plus a chelsea fan.i say we should get good english talent quick and cheap before they attract heavy interest. . ..

From all accounts this young lad seems to have the quality, the fees being mentioned are ridiculous but to get good players now it is the going rate unfortunately

I think its worth it in a way. This is because players such as [Michael] Essien and [John] Mikel will be away.he can be temporary replacement, sought of like a loan.

This would be a great signing! Even at 20 million! And it’s good for the kid aswell! If he stays at Everton he’ll be the new Phil Neville, if he moves to Chelsea he will be the new Essien. Who on earth would like to be the new Phil Neville?
