Photo of the Day: Ashley Cole’s poppy boots

By: Jack | November 10th, 2011

You may have heard about this little disagreement between FIFA and the English FA over the use of poppies for England’s friendly against Spain on Saturday. A compromise was finally reached, but that didn’t stop Nike from taking things into its own power-tripping hands.

Nine England internationals will wear Nike boots embroidered with a poppy for the match. Among those participating is our very own Ashley Cole, his Tiempo Legends pictured below in action during Wednesday’s training session.

Fitting tribute or misguided mockery?

  • For children, it is a wide range of color and style options including fully aware of the styling features of this classic guide. For schools these type of boots are really nice.

Why are England's players wearing nike boots and not umbro? You would figure that would be a conflict of interest and umbro would not allow it...

  • Nike indeed owns Umbro, but that wouldn't be the reason players are wearing Nike. Umbro, The FA, whomever - no entity can tell the players what they can and cannot wear with regard to footwear. I mean, adidas may sponsor Chelsea's club kits, but we still have numerous players who have individual deals with other companies (Drogba, Ashley, etc. with Nike; Terry with Umbro).
