Poll: Will Villas-Boas survive beyond March?

By: Jack | February 12th, 2012

We are playing like shit. Every one of us is waiting for the shit to stop. Some are suggesting that the shit stops with Andre Villas-Boas. I, as you know, am not of this opinion. However, seeing as there are many that would like to see the suave Portuguese vacate the premises, I thought I’d gauge just how many are leaning toward this resolution.

I don’t think Roman will pull the trigger just yet, but he may well do so after seeing how the team performs in the first knockout round of the Champions League. Thus why I chose March as the potential breaking point for AVB.

Anyway. Vote in our poll and please leave a comment explaining why you think what you think. This could get interesting.

short of winning the CL, he doesn't have a prayer, especially with Jose interested in a return to england.

  • Super tight vote. Wow.

If we're in the CL for next season, AVB stays and the "project" continues.  If in a month it looks like 4th is not looking good, Hiddink comes in as the interim manager.  I sincerely hope AVB stays as I feel that this summer we'll bring in a few more players who are hungry for minutes and first team action and who believe in AVB.  Just look at Mata, his entire reason for coming to CFC was because of AVB and Torres.  As much as it pains me to say, I have no doubt once we have more players like "Mata" on the team (who came to CFC because of AVB) and less players like Anelka/Lamps, we'll start seeing a new system and more success.  Even if AVB gets the axe, in 3-4 years we'll owe him a big thanks for all of the young players he brought in who are now breaking into the first team.

Dan, my friend, no one choose a team because of a guy but Mr.Money. Why Mata should join Chelsea because of AVB? does he know AVB? AVB managed him? AVB managed in the same league Mata played?
Players say that we made up our mind after we talked with manager but my friend this is just a norm ... they cannot go there and say "we chose this club because of money"

I think what we see is players not believing in Andre, or just not willing to play for him. He's not here to destroy us, it's not like he's telling them to run around for 90, and forget about winning. Clearly, something somewhere isn't working.

When he first tried to put his stamp on the team, there were claims that no player is untouchable, that the system in itself is changing towards more attractive football, hence the high line at the beginning of the season, that perhaps we should be fielding a younger side, and so we did. First, the high line didn't work (or so claim the media), so we went back to old ways. Then the players. Lampard for instance, made it known to everybody that he doesn't enjoy being subbed off. Malouda lost his place after a few games, and most certainly things go wrong from there. Maybe the way he handled Alex and Anelka played a part too, we never know.
Performance-wise it's pretty messed up too. Maybe Andre wants to play younger players more often. But we a have a very strong core of seniors, who will protest the selection in some way or another.
AVB is walking a tightrope now, as he needs results to save his job. The players are there to deliver, and they don't. If they don't trust the manager, fuck them. We as fans know who's playing and who's not. Some of these players think that Roman will just wave his wand and the new guy will come in, and it all will change. Maybe it will, but not for long, as in year's time we will again find ourselves in this rut, pointing fingers at the same players. So fuck them, I for one, hope Roman sticks with AVB no matter what.
The club comes first, no player should ever think that he's playing for himself, he's playing for the club, the fans, the manager. Some of these guys need to realize that, perhaps it is time to step aside, and let the younger players take over. How can Andre put Josh in the side when Lampard's sitting there pulling a mean face? How can Malouda talk of leaving in January if he doesn't get games, and still continue to play like shit? Fucking leave then, Flo!
Just fielding youngsters will not get us results, we need everyone pulling in the same direction. We can't move half of these seniors, replace them with younger talent, and expect it to suddenly work. We need the core to stay there and help in any way they can. Maybe someday soon Lampard will do what Carragher did, just admit that he's not good enough anymore.
The need to comply with FFP will prevent major overhaul, so the only way is this gradual transition. This year it's Mata, Torres, Romeu and Sturridge, next season someone else will step in. Such a shame that you can sack the manager but not the player.

I see your point but I cannot buy it.
AVB let Josh go without giving the kid an opportunity. He let Ashly plays while Cole is under performing and and Bernard is sitting on bench. Unlike what he claims, he is not building anything. I myself do not care even if we do not qualify to CL next season as long as we use young players, trust young talents ... but he is using all old players and we are losing ...
All samples that mentioned on players do not like him, or do not trust him, or under perofriming because they want to leave are called Losing Dressing room" , he lost it because of lack of experience ...

There isn't any new changes I've seen from AVB.. This is jokes!!! Is Chelsea a team of being beaten with all small teams? now by so doing 'll we afford beating Napoli and hence finish the league in top four?it is childish AVB sold Anelka without replacing another striker while he knew Drogba and Kalou were nearly to leave for AFCON!!! Please Roman try to 've your decisions on this coz AVB has nothing to save Chelsea this season even in next season,Now what is he rebuilding our squard??he must be sacked and bring in one of these Morinho,Hiddink or Pep Gurdiola who 'll be out of contract next season..!!!

  • Ray

Well now even Cech concedes that we play side to side more than forward

"When you lose a game 2-0 and you are Chelsea Football Club playing for the Champions League and with big expectations, losing is not good enough and the performance was not good enough, that's why we lost,' said the 29-year-old.'We took so many passes side to side and we never really opened them up. In the second half we tried to play more direct but they were fighting well and kept organised, and 1-0 up so early became so much more difficult to break.'

  • Dumitru86

imo villas-boas should be allowed to finish the season, while calmly searching for a replacement. unless he gets us to the CL final, there's no reason to allow him to continue.

  • Was there to see the dismal showing yesterday and, sadly, after such a woeful disp[lay the arrogance of the players was amazing. Only Flo, Lamps, Nando and Dave Luiz bothered to thank the couple of thousand hardy souls who PAID to watch that mess and it's not good enough.

I do not live to see our fans clapped but, seriously, feel it shows a lack of respect towards the club and a lack of passion from the players to ignore those who actually did their job yesterday and our amazing travelling fans did so yet again and AVBneeds to listen when we, the most loyal of Chelsea's fans and the most patient start to criticise as without us he will find life VERY hard.

While he keeps his bias towards Portuguese [players here's sunk because Meireles and Bosingwa are plainly, simply, rubbish and never good enough for the EPL let alone Chelsea and CL. I fear he wasn't ever near to ready for this job, though, and the people wh say to stay patient have, now, to show us exactly WHERE they get the impression he's good enough from. Honestly, why should anyone believe in him? He has NEVER rebuilt a side of under tens let alone a team of our stature!! Porto was a tweaking job at a side already close to what he managed there and Academica  just needed some coaching and man management-at neither club did he rebuild and 18 months has nothing to suggest he could POSSIBLY do the Chelsea jib and he was an amazingly stupid gamble of an appointment. So WHY should WE think patience will be rewarded with AVB? Why do people think he should be given time when there's nothing to judge him on apart from his time WITH us and in that time we have become immeasurably WORSE as a team, no?

While he managed to end Cole's top class career this season, too, by refusing to rest him sometimes and trust the very good Bertrand even once or twice and continues to play Bos and Raul he will fail and if I were a youngster at Chelsea I'd PRAY he gets the boot because this season he promised chances when the first teamers didn't perform and, as we see with Josh, he lied and they're better off elsewhere as AVB prefers his odd favourites and playing others to a standstill rather than bringing the club forwards.

Comparing Everton to opening day at ~Stoke? 1000% less effort and 1000% worse. Of the eleven who started I'd say only Luiz, Brana(never at CB, please, never again), Essien, Mata, Studge and Nando came close to being either good or trying hard enough for the shirt, the club, the fans or the money. Why did AVB need this time to assesss players anyway? He should have moved a lot more last summer and kept his word over tyhe high line and playing people when those in possession failed and then he's, at least, hve the players thinking they can't mess with him and he won't lie. ~Sadly, he messed it all up when he sacked HIS high pressing game as now the playersdon't listen and think, as we do, that he just has favourites so it doesn't matter how they perform now they cannot win the league. That team, that eleven, has NO chance of finishing in the top half let alone four, NO chance with Napoli and no chance in the FA either-even Brum will beat that team.

AVB has changed nothing, we play crtappy football and there doesn't look to be much of a plan either and anyone keeping faith must, as I see no reason to think he CAN do it,be totally in denial. AVB here in may = Chelsea bottom half of EPL with no chance of signing improvements in the summer, imho, and AVB looked clueless yesterday. Taking Mata and Essien off while Raul and Lamps wre allowed to stay on???

  • Maysam

Cannot agree more ... You are absolutely right ...

  • SirCecil

"Nando". I can't bear that name because it sounds affectionate. That wastrel is the cause of ALL the troubles here. If that stinker had scored a goal in just a mere four of his league games this season, we'd probably be level with Tottenham. Tommy Langley used to work hard too, but at least HE scored a few goals, unlike the woeful Torres. People complain about Malouda or Lampard or Cole or whomever, but those are men who at some time or other HAVE showed themselves to be worthy of the shirt. TORRES HAS NEVER, EVER DONE THAT.

  • It looks like CFC will keep firing and hiring new managers until one of them gets Torres to start scoring.  That shudder that succeeded your snicker is probably the thought of Rafa at the helm.

  • Billkay

It all hangs on the Champions League. If CFC don't win it this season, they may not qualify for it next season and that would be a disaster (as it will be for Arsenal, and Liverpool if they don't make it). Roman has said Champions League is his priority, so AVB would not easily be forgiven for messing that up, transition season or no transition season.

  • Mtituedger1

sure.. he must go and bring in some one like Morinho/Hiddink/Pep Gudiola who 'll be out of contract next season..!!!

  • Maysam

This is the tricky one ...
I would say "No" because Arsenal and New Castle fixture is more difficult that ours ... New Castle will fall behind soon specially because they need to go  to Arsenal in March ....
Arsenal will play against Sunderland, Spurs, Liverpool, New Castle and Everton and I cannot see them get all points ... but our major opponents are City and Spurs in Feb and March,so I believe even if we drop points against them, Arsenal cannot catch us .... and we will sit in 4th spot (Unless we drop points against Stoke or West Brom) ..

BUT, this does not mean AVB will finish the season with Chelsea ...  I believe he will go beyond March with Chelsea .. unless he really screws up

  • Rudegeoh

The question is, does he have the bottle to make the changes that need to be done? The right back need to be jogged on for starters

  • CHRISMAX29

Are you kidding me Chelsea? I know you should never underestimate a team like Everton but to lose 2-0 is just embarassing. Top four finish? Forget about it. Sorry AVB, but bring back Mourinho in the summer (He wants to leave Madrid, no matter what they accomplish this season
