Dumb people, starring Jamie Carragher

By: Jack | October 5th, 2011

Jamie Carragher has been talking.

What’s cool is that someone actually understood him, enough to translate his mumbling into prose. Even cooler, he’s managed to make himself look even more daft than usual.

jamie

Jamie was apparently in the midst of a rant toward the FA regarding home-grown managers. He wants England to be managed by an Engilsh man. Can’t really argue against that, though there aren’t really that many top-tier English managers. Actually, there aren’t any. Nevertheless, I get where he’s coming from.

But then he decided to widen his scope. Not a great idea. This is Jamie going after Engilsh clubs with foreign managers in the Daily Mail.

“Benitez, Houllier, Mourinho – they’ve all got things about them in terms of having won the big trophies. Does that mean English managers don’t get a chance at the Premier League?,” Carragher queried.

“Look at Chelsea with a 33-year-old manager. In years gone by David Moyes would have got that position, or an up and coming manager who’s done a great job but that doesn’t happen anymore and with the national team it’s about what you’ve achieved, what you’ve got in the locker.”

Wait, what?

Let me first say that I applaud him for mentioning David Moyes as a guy who deserves a shot at a larger club. But, you know Jamie, Moyes isn’t English. He’s Scottish. Damn.

The rest of his mindless ramble is akin to one that your drunken friend – you know, the one who has been between jobs for four years – would make at a wedding reception. Interesting to see Jamie equate a 33-year-old manager with one exemplary season of experience in Portugal in which he won three trophies to not being an up and coming boss. I’m going to need some help with that one.

It’s also a laugh for him to liken this so-called lack of English managers in top positions across the country to some sort of conspiracy. No, Jamie. It’s about them not being good enough. I sort of remember a certain Englishman named Roy being chased out of Merseyside by a pitchfork-branding brigade of scousers not so long ago. He didn’t seem to be good enough for you and your boys. What makes him good enough for us then?

Anyway. How about focusing on holding onto a place in the Liverpool team, Jamie, instead of ranting it up about Chelsea’s new manager? Sounds like a decent enough plan to me.

Incredible comments, I'm disappointed that I'm not more surprised.

As a pool fan, I think the less said about this, the better for all concerned!

A quick Q for you Chelsea boys; I was talking to a mate of mine who was saying that Carl Magnay is a highly regarded prospect at the Bridge and its just some injuries that have held him back from the 1st team. Is that right? Does anyone watch the reserves enough to comment?

  • Pretty sure we released him in June, but I've yet to see confirmation of that.

  • Geoff Twentyman

The lack of response answers my question I guess!!

  • What? I told you he was released. There has been no confirmation from the club on the subject.

@Fat Frank - Frank Lampard throwing his toys out of the pram? Not better than Steven Gerrard? How about 175 goals for Chelsea and a hat-trick last weekend (at 33) whilst Gerrard was where???, oh yeah, struggling to recover from his 'groin' (knees) injury... Face it 'LAD', Stevie G-String is finished...

I have not seen any world-class British manager. Honestly I have not seen that many word-class British soccer players either. As I mentioned this before, British media exaggerate the value and quality of most British soccer players and some managers. That is why British people get surprised every world cup or EURO championship while it is not really a surprise.
Moyes is also one of them. Moyes can only succeed in the UK (If you consider what he has achieved as success) Moyes is a very ordinary manager.
I believe a value of player or manager will not be proven until he goes to another country and succeeds. Look at Drogba, Beckham, Arjen Robben, Jose MOurniho, Trapatoni and Capelo , these people are word-class, these people proved their values in different culture and countries...
but people like Moyes, Fergusen, Wenger are not really word-class to me. They are only British-class

  • cola

Ferguson and Wenger are not really world-class? As much as I hate them, I've got to say your're an idiot

  • Maysam

No they are not. You can call me what ever you want, but I strongly believe they are not. Mourinho, Capelo and Trapatoni are examples of world class managers.
all succeeded in different countries. sticking to one team and succeed is good , as I said "Best in England" but not best in the world. They have not tested in other leagues yet, how do you call them "Best in the world"

  • JPR

Have to agree with Mr. Ryan below. Ferguson is certainly world class. 2 Champions League titles and 2 runner up medals. The last 19 years, United have won the EPL 12 times. There is no other manager in world football or in any other sport for that matter that has had that amount of success.

Was Pele not world class since he stayed in Brazil?

Are Xavi, Iniesta and Puyol not world class. All World Cup Winners, 3 times Champion League winners, Euro winners, 6 League titles, 5 Spanish Super cups, 2 European Super Cups, 1 Spanish Cup, 1 World Club Cup.

How about Pep Guardiola? What he has created at Barcelona. Generally recognized as possibly the greatest football side to ever play the game. Their current style, where they own possession of the football, has been pretty much developed by Pep. (With some other influences). Is he not world class?

  • JPR

I would even say that Pep Guardiola makes Jose Mourinho look almost second rate, no?

Where else have you seen a world class side like Real Madrid driven insane by a bunch of midgets? Only at the circus maybe.

  • Ryan

And what better way to achieve success outside of England than to win a European Cup, twice winning and twice runner up? Alex Ferguson is world class. Don't forget his success at Aberdeen as well.

  • Maysam

Same logic goes for players ... Zidan is the best in the world .. successful in Italy and Spain .. Lampard is the best in the world" No,Not tested
Owen is the best in the world? No, he did not succeed in Spain.

  • ej

So, using that logic, Messi IS NOT the best in the world?

  • Maysam

No Messis, Pele, Guardiola, Lampard, Rooney , Fergusen are not "Best in the world" they have not tested. Messi might not be that good in England so he is not the best. You never know maybe Messi struggles against Stoke City. They are not world class, simply because they have not tested, since I am the best student in my school, this does not mean I am the best student in my city, unless I go and compete with all students in the city.
Guardiola is not a world class manager until he goes to a world-class league and succeeds.
I do not want to talk about Pele since I have not watched him and I have not enough information about opponents he played against. I have no idea about Pele.
    As I said to me
world class managers: Mourniho, Trapatoni, Capello, Guss hiddink
world class playerS: Zidan, Drogba, Robben, Ribery, Di Canio, Zola, Bechham, Torres, , Carvaliho, Deco, C.Ronaldo

There are many players and manager that we considered them as world-class but as soon as they started playing for in other countries,

  • JPR

We've seen Messi destroy United and Arsenal almost single handedly. Two of the best sides in the EPL he CRUSHED by himself. I've never seen anyone else do that!! So you think he might strugle against Stoke? I saw him destroy Nigeria again by himself on International duty as well as other National sides.

Mourinho can not even compete against Pep. He routinely gets destroyed and embarrassed. And as was said earlier, Pep has developed a side in Barca and created a style of play (tactically and strategically) that is widely considered the best football side to ever play the game. That's not world class? Mourinho is not even in the same class as Pep.

If 500 people who know the game were asked if Messi is world class, the only one to say no would be you. Same with Pep, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol and Ferguson.

The argument you use that they have only played within one league has no validity. For the simple reason that they have signifcant experience on the world stage and in the European Champions League. The Champions League is now recognized as the most competitive football competition in the world. Exceeding the level of World Cup.

You say you are the best student in your school. Then at least try to spell the players and managers names correctly. Ferguson (with an o), Zidane (with an e), Beckham (with a k), Mourinho (i before n), Carvalho (no i). Torres is actually spelled SHITE and can't even get a game for Spain. Torres also can't even score from 2 yards out with no keeper, like against United. DiCanio was never any good.

Cola may have a very good point.

Carragher and Gerrard worked with the snake Purslow to allow him to argue to the Board that Rafa had lost the dressing room.  Part of the deal was that Carra would get a new rich contract a couple of days before the new owners came in and his choice for manager, Roy Hodgson,  would be appointed in place of Rafa.  Roy was strongly recommended to the two Liverpool idiots by Danny Murphy - who also hated Rafa for having properly dropped him. Murphy and Carra used the anti-foreign theme at that time.  Having helped undermine Rafa - our best manager in twenty years and the one who elevated Carra from an also-run full back to a good centre back - Carra then tried to sell Hodgson to the fans as the saviour defending him from their criticism.  Of course, Carra has been feathering his nest for years  with the media - giving them and certain websites gossip about Rafa and promoting his own case as a good old local boy who should be kept on by LFC on the coaching staff and groomed as its future manager.  That will never happen.  The new owners are too canny. Carra may however join the many other ex-players who become media whores and proceed to stab the club in the back for money.

AVBs paternal Grandmother Margaret Kendall  was I believe English and her brother was a WW2 fighter pilot. So using the usual arguements used by many countries for qualification to play for their national team AVB probably qualifies as being English

  • Correct, sir.

  • King krnny

Carra is a total and complete xenofobic c*nt only looking out for nr. 1. Even most Liverpool fans know that, and hopes he get the hell out of our club, that feeking Judas boy

  • Fat Frank

Haha at least he doesn't throw his toys out the pram like the vastly overated fat Frank when he's dropped. Jamie Carragher stupid? This coming from the fans who rate fat Frank higher than Stevie Gerrard. Bunch of plastic flag waving mugs.

  • PeeDub

You mean, he doesn't "retire from international duty" in a strop when he's not picked to start or asked to play slightly out of position?

    OoooooooK then ...

  • Elysiumfields

but he also said that the best transfer he has seen since he joined Liverpool was torres to chelsea and suarez to liverpool, he says it with a smile :)

so perhaps hes more clever then most you guys at chelsea lol

  • Satnavkav

osman your not much of a liverpool fan if you agree with a chelsea rentboy having a go at carra

  • Osman

Carra was best chums with the notw when it existed giving them exclusives interviews. Notw is the sister paper for the sun. Got no respect for carra, he's always looking after number 1.

  • Osman

Liverpool fan here. I agree with you about carra, i think he might just be trying to push his credentials as a manager as he can see his time as a footballer is fast running out.
