Expect our Belgian contingent to expand by the end of the week

Buy Belgian. Ho.

We talked yesterday about the club allegedly reentering talks with Racing Genk over the transfer of the young Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne. Those talks (gasp) are actually true.

This according to a spokesman for Genk:

Dirk Degraen is in London and the expectation is that it (the transfer of De Bruyne) will be finished this week. The assumption is that Kevin de Bruyne will be transferred to Chelsea and then will finish the season (on loan) at Genk.

Get it right. Get it tight.

Like I said yesterday, this would represent solid long-term value for the club. And, at £8 million, you’re looking at somewhat of a bargain for a great, versatile attacking prospect. Plus, you know, we’re upping the Belgian count at the club, which, with the potential of that international side to go nowhere but up, can only be good for us.

Thibaut Courtois and Romelu Lukaku in the summer of 2011. Kevin De Bruyne in January of 2012. Eden Hazard to follow? That’s the progression, obviously.

  • Latest bit I read was that the club would do a deal for KDB now, loan him back for the remainder of the season, then let him do a 'Courtois' over the summer (i.e. season-long loan elsewhere).

Not sure I like that idea of him going off for another full year...

  • Mentioned that in the previous piece I did on the potential move. I actually like the idea of him being loaned next year. I'm not sure he's ready to contribute consistently for us quite yet. I would not mind being proved wrong, however.

"get it right, get it tight." Not going to delve too far in what the hell you were talking about, Bubba Jack.
good stuff. I hope the Hazard rumors are true; he's a beast. such a quiet window thus far. there's only 4 days left and nothing really to sink our teeth into. let's go in for a bid for Messi and then at the last minute change tactics and bid on Torres again.
    that'll confuse everybody.

  • Maysam

I am not really excited about him. I have watched him a couple of times and not impressed. 8 is right price for him. Hopefully he improves and we can use him next season.

And Willian's contract expires in 6 months.

There are quotes from Willian in today's Sun:

"I have friends in the Brazil side who play for Chelsea, like David and Ramires.
"All they talk about is the thrill of being in a city like London and playing for a club like Chelsea.
"I've known David since we played together in the Brazil Under-20 side and he talks about what Villas-Boas is trying to build at Chelsea.
"He and Ramires feel he wants a core of young players who can mature and grow together but also be successful.
"David says how the coach takes a real interest in all his players, how he can adapt different cultures together and bring the best out of them.
"Then obviously there is life in London. David and Ramires say there's nothing like it anywhere else in the world — it's exciting and challenging at the same time."

So thats for next season , unless he goes on loan again , But what about this season..??

  • sloany

i rate the guy but and its a good idea with the loan back but i would rather him be loaned to a club that is in a more challenging league i would prefer him go to swansea or some one. A club in england and will make make him a better player quickly. Ideally the only Belgiun i would like to see come in is hazard and fast as possible.

  • MikeyF

If it gets us Hazard, great move! The price is right for his potential. No way to know how he'll do in the more physical EPL, but he has vision and skill to open a defence up. Smart buy for the money. I'd rate him along with Piazon and Lukaku as players that could break into the regular Chelsea squad next year, but it'll take a lot to get them there.

  • chelsea cant loan a player they have just bought to a premierleague side in hte same transfer period... if possible, i would like him to go to spain possibly to valencia or levante...

  • sloany

yeah sorry don't know if you could tell by my spelling and writing but i was very tierd and wasn't thinking. Spain would be a good place to send him, like what we have done with Courtious at athletico send him to a club that will challenge him and make him a better player. I just hope we can bring him in as well as a player that will fit in to the first team straight away and make an impact. There's one player i wouldnt mind seeing come in if we fail with hazard and all these expensive players is adam johnson from man city. Hardly getting a game with euro's comming up and will give us what we need width, pace, skill and what we are missing some one that can bloody cross the ball.

  • Dave

    Agreed.

  • IanS

not to mention that Chelsea, it has been reported, are in for Moussa Dembelé too. Let s go for Vincent Kompany too, and why not Erik Geretz as a coach! haha

  • Well played.
