Video: Come on, Fergie

I respect Sir Alex Ferguson. He’s a legend in this beautiful game. Fergie does, however, suffer from a rather irritable case of selective memory loss.

Example of a poor tackle

Ferguson went on the offensive yesterday afternoon with regard to his young, electric Mexican. Smallish Pea was scissored by Ashley Cole in a ridiculously late challenge during the second half of Sunday’s fantastic match at Old Trafford. It was a rash tackle. It probably deserved harsher punishment than it received (not a penalty, though).

“It was a shocking tackle. He’s very reckless at times, Ashley Cole,” Ferguson said. “He is committed of course but he sometimes can go over the edge a bit and the tackle was an example of that.”

I only just came across this quotage, and I must say: Come on, Fergie. I doubt you offered a similar reaction when the incident captured in the below video went down at Stamford Bridge a couple of seasons back. Shit happens. I’ve seen us do worse and we’ve seen you do worse. Win some, lose some. You got the three points, move it on sir.

Andre Villas-Boas took slightly a different route. He doesn’t condone Cole’s tackle, but manages to use the situation to sneak in his displeasure over the two missed offside decisions in the first half. Mourinho-esque.

“Maybe he wouldn’t get sent off if the linesman does his work,” said Villas-Boas. “He would have been less emotionally drained. I work the other way round. You are trying to say the referee did something wrong. I cannot forget the previous two.

“If it was 0-0 maybe Ashley is a little bit more mentally in control of the situation and doesn’t do the red card foul that you mention.”

Sidenote: I must say, I do hope that Chicha is not seriously injured.

    Ferguson is overrated.
Do you think he is good at spotting young talents ? I can question that for you
Do you think he is very smart manager? I can question that.

The guy cannot win anything in other clubs but Manchester. His tactics are always predictable and depend on one player... take out that player, the team will lose even if 20 points on top of the table.

    very overrated ...

Not sure if stupid.... or being sarcastic

Sorry to disagree as well bro... United were one of the worst european giants last year, and they won the title, and ended up in the champions league final, beating us on both fronts, even though we had a much better squad...
So, I might dislike the guy and his whole team, but I don't think you get where he is, not knowing what you're doing...
I wish we had a culture similar to United, where we could hang on to a coach long enough to make him part of the furniture, and let him embed his "winning" philosophy on all the players coming in...
Thanks for making me do this... Now, I have to go throw up my breakfast...

"Beating us" does not prove that Fergusen is a smart manager.
The guy who carries the label of "The Best Manager" has won CL twice. one in a miracle that he himslef could not beleive and another one John Terry gifted him.
In England they have always had the best squad and all players dreamed of playing for Manchester so they got whomever they wanted easilly and beat other clubs.
Take out Rooney and show me what he got, two seasons ago, Rooney got injured (One player) they lost CL and EPL, do you call this manager smart? Give Avram Grant luck and right players, he will take your team to CL Final as he did.
Alex won EPL 19 times, I have not watched them win all because of my age but in 50% of them that I have watched, referees have been helping them all the way.

The guy is a good manager like David Moyes like Mark Hughes but he is far from managers like Mourinho, Trapattoni , Lippi and Capello (Club Level), Hiddink ....

British media overrate some people .. like they overrate alex Ferguse, they overrate Harry Redknapp , MacEchran , Wilshire ... British media are great at making world-class from professional people... that is exactly why England internationl team is failing because they are not really as good as media is showing ...

  • I respectfully disagree. Massively.

  • Maysam

I respect your opinion but to me this is reality that British media overrate players andmanagers in england and a huge example is Fergusen. "The Best" , he has won 2 CL in all his career while there are managers under 50 and have won it twice already.
They gut is overrated big time.
